This is a report on recurrent rectal bleedings in a 6-year-old boy caused by 2 non-specific ulcers of the caecum. These ulcers are extremely rare in childhood and their aetiology is unknown. In this case the causative factor was supposed to be a preliminary cortisone therapy. The diagnosis of these ulcers is quite difficult because of the absence of any specific symptoms. X-ray and endoscopy of the colon often fail to give reliable results. Usually the diagnosis can be obtained only by laparotomy and histology. Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are two distinguished representatives of inflammatory rheumatic diseases. The two diseases differ significantly in their etiology, pathology, clinical signs, and in the nature of articular manifestations. Their association has been a rarity in the literature. Here, authors describe a case of a 55-year-old female patient with AS associated with RA. This report describes a patient with extensive pyoderma gangrenosum in whom there were co-existent lung abnormalities. The patient's X-ray showed peripherally sited multiple pulmonary lesions bilaterally. A lung biopsy showed chronic non-specific inflammatory changes with neutrophil and lymphocyte infiltration which were similar to the skin lesions. A case of chronic suppurative otitis media is described in a patient with a chronic cold and cough. The presenting symptoms were otorrhoea, perforation of the tympanic membrane and granulation in the air cells of the left mastoid cavity. X-ray showed sclerotic mastoid and partial cellular obliteration. Histologic sections revealed aggregated fungal masses, filamentous hyphae and single-celled structures of Paecilomyces variotii. The infection responded to topical ketoconazole therapy. This is the first reported case of chronic suppurative otitis media caused by P. variotii.

Spondylodiscitis is a well-known as well unavoidable complication of lumbar disc surgery. For diagnosis typical clinical symptoms and diagnostic procedures such as x-ray and scintigram are important but MRI proved to be the most sensitive and reliable. However, meaningful results can only be obtained with MRI if the measurement parameters are carefully considered, where by the field strength of the magnet plays a subordinate role. Therapy of spondylodiscitis using a light cast corset is described and it's advantages over other methods are shown.

Degenerative changes of the femoropatellar joint are being observed increasingly more often. These may be due to various disturbances of the gliding movement and gliding plane. The article describes the clinical and x-ray symptoms and the therapy; in most cases, additional surgery will be necessary besides antepositioning according to the technique described by Bandi.--Follow-up examinations of 32 patients showed that in 28 of 35 surgically treated knee joints, a positive influence had been exercised on the complaints, load capacity and walking distance.

Exophiala dermatitidis pneumonia is extremely rare. Here we report a case of E. dermatitidis pneumonia successfully treated with long-term itraconazole therapy. A 63-year-old woman without a remarkable medical history developed a dry and chest pain. Chest radiographs revealed consolidation in the middle lobe of the lung. Cytologic examination by bronchoscopy showed filamentous fungi and E. dermatitidis was detected in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid. BACKGROUND: Sustained-release bupropion is commonly used for the symptomatic relief of depressive illness and as an adjuvant in smoking cessation therapy.
OBJECTIVE: To report a case of bupropion-induced drug rash with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms syndrome, including acute hepatitis, obstructive lung disease, and myositis.

The efficacy of the combination therapy of fluconazole plus flucytosine against pulmonary cryptococcosis was investigated. The minimal inhibitory concentrations of antifungal agents were measured by growth inhibition on Yeast-morphology agar plates, and the fractional inhibitory concentration index of each antifungal combination were calculated by checker-board titration. Indications for radiotherapy of benign dermatoses have decreased markedly during the past decades. The remaining indications are reviewed. Side effects of ionizing radiation therapy are discussed in detail, with special emphasis on radiodermatitis and radiation cancer of the skin, mutagenic and genetic effects of x rays, and induction of carcinogenesis of interanl organs. Thyroid cancer is used as an example to discuss modern theories of radiocarcinogenesis and risk coefficients of various organ systems. Guide lines for radiotherapy of benign dermatoses are proposed.
