BACKGROUND: The posturography test allows assessment of the entire function of balance system and quantitative, device-based verification of the clinical Romberg test. Therefore, the aim of this study is assessment of usefulness of posturography as primary test for balance disorders in occupational medicine.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study is cross-sectional, analyzing anonymous results of 1030 patients reporting dizziness and balance disorders. Based on symptoms, clinical examination and videonystagmography patients were classified into subgroups: benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV […

Objective:This study was to analyze the results of video head impulse test (vHIT) of benign paroxysmal vertigo of childhood (BPVC) in order to determine the potential value of vHIT in the diagnosis and treatment for BPVC and to discuss its possible pathogenesis of BPVC. Method:Thirty-six children with BPVC were enrolled. No hearing loss and skull abnormality were found in these children as assessed by pure tone audiometry, acoustic impedance, CT or MRI scan. The vHIT was carried out, and main outcome measures were the gain of vestibulo-ocular reflex, gain asymmetry, and refixation saccades. El

Four of the 22 (18.2%) patients developed secondary benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) and all patients complained of simultaneous decreases in hearing.
CONCLUSIONS: Our results demonstrate that patients may develop vestibular symptoms during their clinical course, and all patients with an enlarged vestibular aqueduct should b …

RESULTS: Of the 167 patients assessed, the most prevalent conditions encountered were benign paroxysmal positional vertigo and vestibular migraine. The prevalence of vestibular migraine was 29.3 per cent. No cases of Ménière's disease were encountered. OBJECTIVE: The relationship of cognitive dysfunction and vestibular dysfunction has been established by various studies. However, the available Patient-Reported Outcome Measures questionnaires that address the main vestibular complaint fail to highlight this domain of dysfunction in this patient population. The objective of this study was to quantify and compare cognitive impairment using a validated cognitive questionnaire across several vestibular diagnoses.
STUDY DESIGN: Cross-sectional study of 186 patients presenting to a tertiary care vestibular clinic with a diagnosis of vestibular mig

Vertigo is a debilitating disease affecting 15-20% of adults worldwide. Vestibular peripheral vertigo is the most common cause of vertigo, often due to Meniere's disease and benign paroxysmal positional vertigo. Although some vertigo symptoms can be controlled by conservative treatment and/or vestibular rehabilitation therapy, these treatments do not work for some patients. Semicircular canal occlusion surgery has proven to be very effective for these patients with intractable vertigo. However, its application is limited due to concern that the procedure will disrupt normal hearing. In this st…

OBJECTIVE: The differential diagnosis of vertigo in children is extensive. Otitis media and middle ear effusion could be the most common causes of vertigo in children, but there are some problems in detecting the other causes for vertigo because they are one of most frequent diseases of childhood. The purpose of this study is to review the clinical characteristics and both the audiological and vestibular findings of vertigo in children with normal eardrums, who do not show otitis media or middle ear effusion, and to assist in making a differential diagnosis of vertigo.

BACKGROUND: Intractable benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) may be treated by plugging the affected semicircular canal (SCC). A cochlear implant (CI) can diminish subjective symptoms of tinnitus. We present a case with intractable BPPV and incapacitating tinnitus who underwent surgery, simultaneously plugging his posterior SCC (PSCC) and implanting an ipsilateral CI.
CASE: A 50-year-old male experienced single-sided deafness (SSD) with severe ipsilateral tinnitus, and intractable BPPV related to the ipsilateral PSCC. Two years earlier, he had been treated with a bone anchored hearing …

OBJECTIVES: This investigation was conducted to measure the test-retest reliability of the Dizziness Symptom Profile (DSP). The DSP was developed to assist primary care providers, general otolaryngologists, and other health care providers in the development of a differential diagnosis for patients who present with dizziness, vertigo, or unsteadiness. The DSP yields a score ranging from 0 to 100% for each of 7 subscales. Each subscale represents a different diagnosis including benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, Ménière's disease, persistent postural-perceptual dizziness (PPPD), superior semi…

Dizziness is a common chief complaint in emergency medicine. The differential diagnosis is broad and includes serious conditions, such as stroke, cardiac arrhythmia, hypovolemic states, and acute toxic and metabolic disturbances. Emergency physicians must distinguish the majority of patients who suffer from benign self-limiting conditions from those with serious illnesses that require acute treatment. Misdiagnoses are frequent and diagnostic test costs high. The traditional approach does not distinguish benign from dangerous causes and is not consistent with best current evidence. This article

Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), the most common vestibular disorder, is diagnosed by an examiner changing the posture of the examinee and inducing nystagmus. Among the diagnostic methods used to observe nystagmus, video-nystagmography has been widely used recently because it is non-invasive. A specialist with professional knowledge and training in vertigo diagnosis is needed to diagnose BPPV accurately, but the ratio of vertigo patients to specialists is too high, thus necessitating the need for automated diagnosis of BPPV. In this paper, a convolutional neural network-based nysta…
