Two new compounds, a benzofuran derivative (1) and a benzoate derivative (2), along with four known γ-pyrones (3-6), were isolated from the culture broth of Dentipellis fragilis. Their chemical structures were elucidated via spectroscopic analysis. The anti-inflammatory and cytotoxic effects of these compounds were assessed. Compound 4 exhibited significant anti-inflammatory activity, inhibiting approximately 60 % of NO production at 0.005 μM without cytotoxic effects. Additionally, compound 2 showed moderate cytotoxicity against HCT-116 and Mia Paca-2 human cancer cells, with IC50 values.

Women heterozygous for mutations at the ornithine transcarbamylase (OTC) locus may be at risk for hyperammonaemia and its untoward effects including coma and death in the postpartum period. We present the case of a pregnant woman heterozygous for OTC deficiency (McKusick 311250) whose past medical history was significant for two prior pregnancies complicated by postpartum hyperammonaemic coma. Triphenyltin 3,5-di-isopropylsalicylate, compound 1, is characterized by a maximum tolerated dose (MTD) of 20 mg/kg. A stable, N,O-dibenzoyl derivative (DBHC) of N-hydroxycyanamide, the latter the postulated bioactivation product of the alcohol deterrent agent, cyanamide, has been synthesized. DBHC was an effective inhibitor of yeast aldehyde dehydrogenase (AIDH) in vitro and inhibited this enzyme in a concentration-dependent manner with an IC50 of 25 microM. A procedure is described for the radioiodination of proteins using an iodinated derivative of N-succinimidyl 3-(tri-n-butylstannyl) benzoate (ATE). Adequate removal of unreacted ATE from [125I]ATE was necessary for optimal protein radioiodination. Pharyngeal arch arteries (PAA) are formed early during mouse embryogenesis and remodel soon thereafter into the aortic arch arteries. Failure of these vessels to form or remodel results in congenital heart defects. Topical permethrin is the most effective treatment for classic scabies (strength of recommendation [SOR]: A, meta-analyses with consistent results). Antiphospholipid antibody syndrome (APS) may rarely present with isolated thrombocytopenia that may be diagnosed and treated as immune thrombocytopenic purpura. A 32-year-old woman was given eltrombopag (a thrombopoietin receptor agonist) to treat presumed immune thrombocytopenic purpura. She developed catastrophic APS, with multiple ischaemic infarcts, microvascular coronary thrombosis and digital gangrene. She improved after stopping eltrombopag and starting immunotherapy (corticosteroids, intravenous immunoglobulin and rituximab) but was left with significant neurological morbidity.
