We report a case of sarcomatoid carcinoma of the ureter in a 60-year-old woman who presented at our hospital with right flank pain. She had undergone total ovariectomy and radiation therapy for ovarian cancer at the age of 40 years. During the period from 1975 to 1989, a total of 59 patients with superficial esophageal carcinoma (SEC) were operated on in our Surgical Clinic. Forty patients of the 59 (68%) had been treated during the previous 5 yr. Although 22 patients (37%) complained of slight esophageal symptoms, 12 patients had only symptoms unrelated to esophageal disease, and 25 patients were asymptomatic.
