Influence of nutrition on postvaccinial tuberculin sensitivity.

Response to BCG vaccination was studied in 261 apparently normal preschool children in a community. They were classified into different nutritional groups based on deficit in weight for age. In addition, nine children who had kwashiorkor and were admitted to the hospital were investigated. They were given 0.1 ml of BCG vaccine, and 6 months later, tuberculin sensitivity was assessed using 5 U of PPD. Blood samples were collected from 84 subjects and leukocyte migration inhibition was determined using the same antigen. After BCG vaccination, over 80% of children in the community showed positive

The effect of cortisone acetate on pulmonary lesions in a rabbit model of hypersensitivity pneumonitis (cortisone and hypersensitivity pneumonitis).

Rabbits were sensitized with Micropolyspora faeni by intratracheal inoculations and later challenged with the same antigen either with or without parenteral administration of cortisone acetate prior to challenge. Animals developed anti-M. faeni serum precipitins, M. faeni-induced alveolar macrophage migration inhibition, and positive 48-hr skin reactivity to M. faeni. Sensitized animals also demonstrated an augmented pulmonary histopathological response following respiratory challenge with M. faeni when compared to non-sensitized controls. Cortisone acetate abrogated this augmented pulmonary h

Development of specific cellular immunoreactivity in typhoid fever.

Development of cellular immunoreactivity to Salmonella typhi and Salmonella paratyphi-A was studied by the leukocyte migration inhibition test in 9 patients with typhoid fever and in 2 patients with paratyphoid fever. Cellular reactivity could be demonstrated from the first days of the disease in all the subjects. The most pronounced migration inhibition was observed during the febrile period. It is suggested that specific cellular reactivity may play a pathogenetic role in typhoid fever.

Immune response of ponies to experimental infection with Ehrlichia equi.

Four ponies experimentally infected with Ehrlichia equi developed substantial cell-mediated immune responses, as measured by the leukocyte migration-inhibition test. Serum anti-E equi antibodies up to 1:1,280 were demonstrated by the indirect fluorescent antibody test. Cell-mediated immune responses returned to a base-line value by day 200 after primary inoculation, but serum antibody titers persisted for at least 300 days after inoculation. Two additional susceptible ponies, which were inoculated with convalescent blood or organ homogenates from ponies recovered from acute equine ehrlichiosis

Cellular immune responses to amoebic liver abcess in the guinea-pig.

Guinea-pigs infected in the liver with the Biswas strain of Entamoeba histolytica showed no dermal hypersensitivity but showed positive lymphocyte transformation and macrophage-migration inhibition. The time sequence showed an activated response at 4 days after infection, a full response at 8 days when the liver abscesses were resolving and a waning response at 12 days when the abscesses had healed.

In-vitro monitoring of cell-mediated immunity to dinitrochlorobenzene.

A dinitrochlorobenzene (D.N.C.B.)/red-blood-cell conjugate inhibited migration of leucocytes which came from D.N.C.B. sensitised patients. This effect provided the basis for a rapid, sensitive, and quantitative in-vitro measure of D.N.C.B. sensitivity. Frequent serial measurement of cell-mediated immunity was possible with the test, provided D.N.C.B. sensitivity was maintained by occasional skin patch tests.

Cyclic AMP-mobilizing agents and glucocorticoids modulate human smooth muscle cell migration.

Hyperplasia and cell migration of smooth muscle are features of both airway and pulmonary vascular diseases. The precise cellular and molecular mechanisms that regulate smooth muscle migration in the lungs remain unknown. In this study, we examined the effect of cAMP-mobilizing agents and steroids on smooth muscle cell migration. Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), transforming growth factor-alpha, vascular endothelial growth factor, and basic fibroblast growth factor significantly stimulated cell migration in pulmonary vascular smooth muscle (PVSM) cells. Airway smooth muscle (ASM) migrati

Inhibition of osteoblast proliferation and migration by exogenous and endogenous formaldehyde.

Exogenous and endogenous formaldehyde (FA) both play an important role in cell growth and migration; however, their potential role in osteoblasts remains largely unclear. Cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) and wound-healing assays revealed that FA exposure at naturally occurring concentrations inhibited the proliferation and migration of mouse preosteoblast MC3T3-E1 cells. Moreover, RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) analysis revealed that FoxO1 signaling pathway components displayed distinct expression patterns upon FA exposure, reflected through significant enrichment of cell migration. In particular, FoxO1-

Knockdown of Urothelial Carcinoma-Associated 1 Suppressed Cell Growth and Migration Through Regulating miR-301a and CXCR4 in Osteosarcoma MHCC97 Cells.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Liver cancer is one of the most common malignancies in the world and a leading cause of cancer-related mortality. Accumulating evidence has highlighted the critical role of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) in various cancers. The present study aimed to explore the role of lncRNA urothelial carcinoma-associated 1 (UCA1) in cell growth and migration in MHCC97 cells and its underlying mechanism. First, we assessed the expression of UCA1 in MHCC97 and three other cell lines by RT-qPCR. Then the expression of UCA1, miR-301a, and CXCR4 in MHCC97 cells was altered by transient transfection. The effects

BDNF improves fracture healing through promoting osteoblasts proliferation and migration via trkb/akt regulated NUCKS1 expression.

BACKGROUND: Bone nonunion is a major complication in fracture treatment. Despite considerable advancements in fracture care, 5-10% of fractures result in nonunion; This demonstrates the requirement for novel molecules to enhance fracture healing. Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) has been increasingly recognized for its role in fracture healing; however, the underlying molecular mechanisms remain unclear. Osteoblast proliferation and migration are critical to this process. The nuclear casein kinase and cyclin-dependent kinase substrate 1 gene (NUCKS1), located on human chromosome 1 at 1

Protein kinase A activity and anchoring are required for ovarian cancer cell migration and invasion.

Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is the deadliest of the gynecological malignancies, due in part to its clinically occult metastasis. Therefore, understanding the mechanisms governing EOC dissemination and invasion may provide new targets for antimetastatic therapies or new methods for detection of metastatic disease. The cAMP-dependent protein kinase (PKA) is often dysregulated in EOC. Furthermore, PKA activity and subcellular localization by A-kinase anchoring proteins (AKAPs) are important regulators of cytoskeletal dynamics and cell migration. Thus, we sought to study the role of PKA and AK

Subcellular fractions from dermis and epidermis in contact sensitization of guinea pigs to 1-chloro-2,4-dinitrobenzene.

Subcellular fractions were prepared from the epidermis of guinea pigs which had been painted with 1-chloro-2,4 dinitrobenzene 14 h previously. The microsomal fraction showed less activity than other fractions in the MIF test. Similarly, the microsomal fraction from the dermis of skin irritated with croton oil before DNCB painting was relatively inactive. However, the microsomal fractions from the epidermis and more especially from the dermis of skin painted with DNCB while undergoing allergic contact dermatitis from pentadecylcatechol showed significant MIF activities.

A study of elevated interleukin-8 (CXCL8) and detection of leukocyte migration inhibitory activity in patients allergic to beta-lactam antibiotics.

BACKGROUND: The leukocyte migration test (LMT) is effective in identifying the causative drug in drug allergies. Both leukocyte migration activating activity (LMAA) and leukocyte migration inhibitory activity (LMIA) are involved in the development of drug allergies. However, no cytokines associated with LMIA have been identified to date. Because CXCL8 played an important role in neutrophil infiltration and activation, we performed the LMT and measured CXCL8 levels in patients with hypersensitivity to beta-lactam antibiotics (beta-lactams) and antipyretic analgesics (APAs) and investigated the

Inhibition of ROCK signaling pathway accelerates enteric neural crest cell-based therapy after transplantation in a rat hypoganglionic model.

BACKGROUND: Hirschsprung's disease (HSCR) is a congenital gastrointestinal disorder, characterized by enteric ganglia absence in part or entire of the colon, due to abnormal colonization and migration of enteric neural crest cells (ENCCs) during development. Currently, besides surgery which is the main therapy for HSCR, the potential of stem cell-based transplantation was investigated as an alternative option. Although promising, it has limitations, including poor survival, differentiation, and migration of the grafted cells. We hypothesized that modulation of extracellular factors during tran

Inter-kingdom Signaling by the Legionella Quorum Sensing Molecule LAI-1 Modulates Cell Migration through an IQGAP1-Cdc42-ARHGEF9-Dependent Pathway.

Small molecule signaling promotes the communication between bacteria as well as between bacteria and eukaryotes. The opportunistic pathogenic bacterium Legionella pneumophila employs LAI-1 (3-hydroxypentadecane-4-one) for bacterial cell-cell communication. LAI-1 is produced and detected by the Lqs (Legionella quorum sensing) system, which regulates a variety of processes including natural competence for DNA uptake and pathogen-host cell interactions. In this study, we analyze the role of LAI-1 in inter-kingdom signaling. L. pneumophila lacking the autoinducer synthase LqsA no longer impeded th

Phosphodiesterase 8 (PDE8) regulates chemotaxis of activated lymphocytes.

The immune system depends on chemokines to recruit lymphocytes to tissues in inflammatory diseases. This study identifies PDE8 as a new target for inhibition of chemotaxis of activated lymphocytes. Chemotactic responses of unstimulated and concanavalin A-stimulated mouse splenocytes and their modulation by agents that stimulate the cAMP signaling pathway were compared. Dibutyryl cAMP inhibited migration of both cell types. In contrast, forskolin and 3-isobutyl-1-methylxanthine each inhibited migration of unstimulated splenocytes, with little effect on migration of stimulated splenocytes. Only
