Adverse events in cognitive behavioral therapy and relaxation training for children and adolescents with obsessive-compulsive disorder: A mixed methods study and analysis plan for the TECTO trial.

BACKGROUND: Knowledge on adverse events in psychotherapy for youth with OCD is sparse. No official guidelines exist for defining or monitoring adverse events in psychotherapy. Recent recommendations call for more qualitative and quantitative assessment of adverse events in psychotherapy trials. This mixed methods study aims to expand knowledge on adverse events in psychotherapy for youth with OCD. METHODS: This is an analysis plan for a convergent mixed methods study within a randomized clinical trial (the TECTO trial). We include at least 128 youth aged 8-17 years with obsessive-compulsive d

The effects of dual-task training with different task priorities on physical performance and cognitive status in patients with Parkinson's disease: a single-blind, randomized controlled trial.

Two strategies have been identified for dual-task training (DTT). These strategies are "variable-priority" DTT (V-DTT) and"fixed-priority" DTT (F-DTT). However, no study compared this DTT methods in patients with Parkinson's disease (PwPD). This study was planned to investigate the effects of V-DTT and F-DTT on physical performance, cognitive status and daily life in PwPD. 30 PwPD randomly allocated to V-DTT, F-DTT or single-task training (STT) groups. All groups received 60-minute training, two-times per week for 6-weeks. Physical performance, cognitive skills and activities of daily living (

Examining sex as a potential moderator of metacognitive training for psychosis efficacy on cognitive insight and jumping to conclusions bias: Evidence from a large-scale harmonized database.

BACKGROUND: Whereas biological sex differences in psychosis are well-documented in terms of clinical presentation and illness course, their moderating role in the effectiveness of cognitive interventions remains unclear. Previous studies in first-episode psychosis (FEP) suggested sex-specific responses to Metacognitive Training for psychosis (MCT) on cognitive insight and jumping to conclusions (JTC) bias, but generalizability to broader clinical populations is unknown. METHODS: This retrospective study analyzed harmonized individual participant data from 633 persons with schizophrenia spectr…

Evaluation of a memory and psychomotor training for cancer patients with cancer-related cognitive impairment: a study protocol for a prospective randomized controlled single-center trial in Germany.

BACKGROUND: Cancer-related cognitive impairment (CRCI) is common and can affect the quality of life for cancer patients. Nonpharmacological interventions as cognitive training or exercise are recommended. However, research that includes both self-reported and objective outcome measures, along with longer-term follow-up to identify the most effective interventions, is lacking. This trial aims to evaluate a combined memory and psychomotor training compared to usual care with regard to objective and subjective cognitive function for cancer patients with curative treatment and CRCI. METHODS: The …

Aerobic Exercise Training-Induced Changes on DNA Methylation in Mild Cognitively Impaired Elderly African Americans: Gene, Exercise, and Memory Study - GEMS-I.

BACKGROUND: DNA methylation at CpG sites is a vital epigenetic modification of the human genome affecting gene expression, and potentially, health outcomes. However, evidence is just budding on the effects of aerobic exercise-induced adaptation on DNA methylation in older mild cognitively impaired (MCI) elderly African American (AAs). Therefore, we examined the effects of a 6-month aerobic exercise-intervention on genome-wide DNA methylation in elderly AA MCI volunteers. DESIGN: Elderly AA volunteers confirmed MCI assigned into a 6-month program of aerobic exercise (eleven participants) under

CognIFied: protocol for a pilot randomised controlled trial of a culturally adapted, task-shifted compensatory cognitive training intervention for young adults with first-episode psychosis in Nigeria.

INTRODUCTION: Cognitive impairment is present in the majority of individuals with first-episode psychosis (FEP) and is a strong predictor of long-term functional disability. Despite this, evidence-based cognitive interventions are rarely available in routine mental healthcare in low-income and middle-income countries, where most young people with psychosis reside. This protocol describes the CognIFied study, a pilot randomised controlled trial evaluating the feasibility and acceptability of a culturally adapted, task-shifted compensatory cognitive training (CCT) intervention for young adults w…

Effects of Combined Visual-Motor Response Training on Cognitive Function and Brain Plasticity Mechanisms in Various Populations: Protocol for a Single-Center, Open-Label, Controlled Clinical Trial.

BACKGROUND: Cognitive impairment is one of the major diseases facing the aging population. The progressive decline of cognitive function can lead to declining health or even the loss of life, work, and social ability. Exercise and behavioral stimulation can increase neurotransmitters in the brain and improve overall health and cognitive function. Reactivity training can mobilize neuromuscular function and induce changes in brain plasticity, which may effectively improve cognitive dysfunction and delay the occurrence and development of Alzheimer disease; however, the evidence supporting its eff

[Effects of exergame combined with elastic band resistance training on exercise self-efficacy and physical activity levels in older adults with cognitive frailty: A mixed-methods study].

OBJECTIVES: Cognitive frailty is a geriatric syndrome characterized by the coexistence of physical frailty and mild cognitive impairment. It is a strong predictor of adverse health outcomes including disability, dementia, falls, and mortality. Exergaming can enhance exercise appeal and immersion, while elastic band resistance training can safely and effectively improve muscle function. Nevertheless, few studies have systematically integrated these two approaches, and most evaluations have focused on quantitative outcomes without exploring participants' subjective experiences. This mixed-method
