We previously identified transforming growth factor (TGF)-β signaling as a fibronectin-independent mechanism of type I collagen fibrillogenesis following adult liver injury. To address the contribution of TGF-β signaling during the development of liver fibrosis, we generated adult mice lacking TGF-β type II receptor (TGF-βIIR) from the liver. A child with typical spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia congenita had a recurrent, heterozygous substitution of arginine 789 by cysteine in the triple helical domain of alpha 1 (II) chains of type II collagen. OBJECTIVE: To analyze the remodeling dynamics of total collagen, type I and III, the expression of ICAM-1 and 5-HT in the jejunum of rats.
METHODS: Twenty-eight Wistar rats were randomly assigned to two experimental groups: the control group (CG, n = 7) and the infected group (receiving 5,000 sporulated T. gondii oocysts - ME49 strain, genotype II, n = 21).
