From solubility to efficiency: Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) regeneration from anion exchange resins.

This study investigated the regenerability of anion exchange resins for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), focusing on the interaction between regenerant composition and resin characteristics. The influence of salt type and concentration on PFAS solubility revealed a general decline in perfluorohexane sulfonate (PFHxS) solubility with increased salt concentrations, most strongly with KCl followed by NaCl and NH4Cl. Mixed solubility results were observed for perfluorooctanoate (PFOA) and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS). Three resins - A592E and USA291597EPF (strong base resins) and US

Restorative pulpal and repair responses.

BACKGROUND: Each year, about 90 million new restorations are placed in the United States and 200 million are replaced. Controversy surrounds the pulpal reactions and frequency of bacterial microleakage associated with common restorative materials. The authors investigated and compared pulpal reactions to different types of restorative materials. METHODS: Two hundred seventy-two teeth with standardized rectangular Class V unexposed cavities were restored with resin-based composite bonded to dentin; resin-based composite bonded to enamel; resin-modified glass ionomers, or RMGI; amalgam lined wi

Temperature variation caused by high-intensity LED curing lights in bovine dentin.

This study sought to evaluate the temperature variations in bovine dentin when cured with high-intensity LED appliances and quartz-tungsten-halogen (QTH) appliances. Forty-five slices of bovine dentin (0.7 mm thick) were divided into three groups. Temperature variations were measured during polymerization of the adhesive (10 seconds), during polymerization of the resin composite (40 seconds), and 24 hours after the resin composite polymerization. The data were submitted to the ANOVA repeated measures test, which showed a statistically significant difference in the interaction factor (p = 0.000

LED Curing Lights and Temperature Changes in Different Tooth Sites.

Objectives. The aim of this in vitro study was to assess thermal changes on tooth tissues during light exposure using two different LED curing units. The hypothesis was that no temperature increase could be detected within the dental pulp during polymerization irrespective of the use of a composite resin or a light-curing unit. Methods. Caries-free human first molars were selected, pulp residues were removed after root resection, and four calibrated type-J thermocouples were positioned. Two LED lamps were tested; temperature measurements were made on intact teeth and on the same tooth during c

Effect of bone defect width and a ferrule on the fracture characteristics of vertically fractured teeth reattached with adhesive resin cement: An in vitro study.

This study aimed to clarify the effects of vertical bone defect width and a ferrule on fracture of the fragments of fractured tooth reattached with adhesive resin cement (reattached tooth). The reattached tooth was built up by a fiber post and composite resin core for abutment and formed to the abutment with or without a ferrule. The vertical bone defect was fabricated with a V-shaped defect in different widths. The fracture load was evaluated using a universal testing machine. The vertical bone defect did not affect the fracture load, but a ferrule increased the root fracture load. For the sp

Porcelain veneer post-bonding crack repair by resin infiltration.

Ceramic laminate veneer restorations are indicated in several clinical situations. Indirect restorations are usually chosen if the less-invasive options - bleaching, resin infiltration, or composite resin restorations - are not possible, or when it is too difficult to achieve an esthetically pleasing result in the long term. Bonded indirect partial restorations are highly dependent on their adhesive interface, as these thin restorations have a relatively low cohesive strength. Therefore, preservation of sound enamel, conditioning of the restorations and of the substrate, and luting procedures

Using chemical vapor deposition diamond finishing burs for conservative esthetic procedures.

The article demonstrates how chemical vapor deposition (CVD) diamond burs were used in a simple esthetic and cosmetic procedure to treat discolored anterior teeth. A patient who experienced discoloration after bleaching was treated with direct resin composite veneers. Excess restorative material close to the periodontium was removed with a CVD diamond bur attached to an ultrasonic handpiece. The results indicate that CVD diamond burs are appropriate for removing excess material at the gingival margins of resin composite restorations without damaging the periodontium.

Stress Concentration of Endodontically Treated Molars Restored with Transfixed Glass Fiber Post: 3D-Finite Element Analysis.

The loss of dental structure caused by endodontic treatment is responsible for a decrease in tooth resistance, which increases susceptibility to fracture. Therefore, it is important that minimally invasive treatments be performed to preserve the dental structure and increase the resistance to fracture of endodontically treated posterior teeth. To evaluate under axial loads, using the finite element method, the stress distribution in endodontically treated molars restored with both transfixed or vertical glass fiber posts (GFP) and resin composite. An endodontically treated molar 3D-model was a

A novel management of vertical root fracture in an endodontically treated mandibular premolar with titanium screw: A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Vertical root fracture is one of the conditions prevalent in endodontically treated teeth. The treatment options include extraction of the fracture fragment or the affected tooth as a whole. This case report highlights the successful management of vertical root fracture in an endodontically treated mandibular first premolar. METHOD: Surgical intervention was initiated, and a full-thickness flap was elevated. The separated fracture segment was safely retrieved, and the existing caries were removed and then reattached to the main fragment with the help of a titanium screw. The too

A Multidisciplinary Approach to Maxillary Lateral Incisor Agenesis (MLIA): A Case Report.

Maxillary lateral incisor agenesis (MLIA) is a condition that significantly compromises smile esthetics and is a particular concern in younger patients. The treatment options include orthodontics for space opening with rehabilitation or space closure with canine camouflage. Currently, there is some controversy regarding the most appropriate treatment. In this case report, we propose a multidisciplinary approach through the combination of orthodontic treatment, frenectomy, and a restorative finishing stage with composite resin and dental implants. More specifically, this treatment was planned t
