PURPOSES: Palliative Sedation (PS) is a supportive treatment that relieves refractory symptoms by reducing the patient's consciousness without hastening death. This study investigated the attitudes and psychosocial factors influencing the decision-making of cancer patients' relatives regarding PS.
METHODS: A descriptive cross-sectional study involved 100 relatives of end-stage cancer patients in the central region of Vietnam.

Opsoclonus-myoclonus syndrome (OMS) is characterized by abnormal eye and systemic involuntary movements, as well as cerebellar ataxia. Some sedatives and anesthetics worsen movements associated with OMS, while there is no known report of a negative effect of atropine. We report on sedation in two patients with OMS. Involuntary movements were transiently worsened after using atropine with midazolam or thiamylal in both, but were not seen when atropine was not used. Fat embolism to the systemic circulation in polytrauma patients is very common. The fat embolism syndrome (FES), however, is a rare condition. We describe a case of traumatic femur fracture with FES that was presented as acute tonsillar herniation (coning) and brain death postoperatively. Early achievement of functional verticality milestones (FVMs) has the potential to ameliorate the detrimental effects of bed rest and immobility observed in ICU patients and reduce healthcare costs. Sixteen hour polygraphic recordings (EEG, EOG and EMG) were obtained from 14 adult cats after intraperitoneal injections of propranolol (5 mg/kg) or pindolol (0.1 or 0.5 mg/kg). All injections moderately increased waking, which consisted mainly of a sedated drowsy stage. Both drugs also decreased deep slow wave sleep, while light slow wave sleep remained at control levels.
