[Cerebral trauma - psychological trauma? Study of 47 children with medulloblastoma and their follow-up].

47 Children with medulloblastoma who were treated between 1954 and 1974 were studied. The parents and children were interviewed regularly with their medical attendants to estimate the contribution of the organic disease, the psychological factors and the environment on their intellectual performance and their personalities. In the assessment, allowance was made for their age, clinical history, and social and scholastic background. The analysis helped in the choice of the most appropriate psychological support. The difficulties of social re-adjustment cannot be solely due to the brain tumour or

Can AI-generated culturally contextualized listening materials enhance agentic engagement? An exploratory study with Saudi EFL students.

INTRODUCTION: Previous research suggests that culturally relevant listening materials can enhance language learners' engagement. However, creating culturally contextualized listening materials requires considerable time and expertise, hindering many instructors from developing their own resources. Few studies have explored the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in overcoming these obstacles. Addressing this gap, the present study examined the impact of AI-generated culturally contextualized listening materials on five dimensions of learner engagement among English as Foreign Language (E

Effects of a motor and cognitive training program on executive function and different biomarkers related to muscle-brain crosstalk in breast cancer survivors: 3-arm randomised controlled BRAINonFIT study protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Cancer-related cognitive impairment (CRCI) is a significant but often neglected issue for breast cancer survivors that reduces their quality of life. Physical exercise and cognitive training have emerged as promising strategies for CRCI; however, evidence regarding its effectiveness is still unknown. A recently developed motor-cognitive training (dual-tasks) is proposed to examine its efficacy on executive function, physical fitness, emotional symptomatology, and important muscle-brain crosstalk biomarkers. METHODS: The BRAINonFIT study is a randomised, controlled, longitudinal

Neurocognitive Profiles in Adolescents With Postural Tachycardia Syndrome and Perceived Brain Fog: A Preliminary Report.

BACKGROUND: Postural tachycardia syndrome (POTS) is associated with complaints of cognitive and emotional difficulties that may contribute to severe functional disability. For high-achieving adolescents, these symptoms can result in decreased participation in school and extracurricular activities. There are very limited data comparing subjective symptom reports to neurocognitive profiles in adolescents presenting with POTS, "brain fog," and cognitive difficulties. METHODS: A review of medical records and neuropsychological data was conducted for six adolescents diagnosed with POTS at a pediat

Learning from social media: utilizing advanced data extraction techniques to understand barriers to breast cancer treatment.

Past examinations of breast cancer treatment barriers have typically included registry, claims-based, and smaller survey studies. We examined treatment barriers using a novel, comprehensive, social media analysis of online, candid discussions about breast cancer. Using an innovative toolset to search postings on social networks, message boards, patient communities, and topical sites, we performed a large-scale qualitative analysis. We examined the sentiments and barriers expressed about breast cancer treatments by Internet users during 1 year (2/1/14-1/31/15). We categorized posts based on the

Impact of Artificial Intelligence on the Care of Terminally Ill Patients.

Introduction: In recent decades, demographic aging has led to an inversion of the population pyramid, with a marked increase in the proportion of older adults. This shift has been accompanied by a higher prevalence of chronic and life-limiting diseases, while there have also been significant technical and scientific advances. However, these developments have not been matched by a proportional expansion of healthcare human resources, including in palliative care (PC). Consequently, healthcare systems face increasing pressure, particularly in the provision of end-of-life care. Artificial intelli

Progression of visual cognition and neuropsychiatric symptoms in Huntington's disease: a 1-year follow-up study across preclinical and clinical phases.

INTRODUCTION: Huntington's disease (HD) is a progressive and complex neurodegenerative disorder marked by motor, psychiatric, and cognitive impairments. This study evaluates the progression of visual cognition across the HD spectrum-including pre-manifest with reduced penetrance (RP) alleles-as a potential early marker of disease progression. Secondary objectives assess changes in motor function, general cognition, and neuropsychiatric symptoms, and identify predictors of clinical trajectories. Exploratory analyses focused on the characterization of pre-manifest and RP individuals compared to

Can autism, language and coordination disorders be differentiated based on ability profiles?

Children with autistic disorder (AD), mixed receptive-expressive language disorder (RELD), or developmental coordination disorder (DCD) have impairments in common. We assess which abilities differentiate the disorders. Children aged 3-13 years diagnosed with AD (n = 30), RELD (n = 30), or DCD (n = 22) were tested on measures of language, intelligence, social cognition, motor coordination, and executive functioning. Results indicate that the AD and DCD groups have poorer fine and gross motor coordination and better response inhibition than the RELD group. The AD and DCD groups differ in fine an

Dimensional and categorical approaches to behavioral-emotional problems in children and adolescents with mental disorders: A cross-sectional study.

INTRODUCTION: Many psychiatric disorders emerge during adolescence, but their manifestations show only partial overlaps with adult disorders. Child and adolescent mental disorders have long-term implications for adult functioning, underscoring the need for early intervention. Effective treatment strategies require accurate diagnostic approaches and consideration of potential confounders. Therefore, this study aims to compare dimensional and categorical assessment methods to identify emotional-behavioral differences across different disorder categories. METHODS: In a multi-center cross-section

Biases in an artificial intelligence image-generator's depictions of healthy aging and Alzheimer's.

OBJECTIVE: This content analysis study investigates potential biases in image generation by 2 artificial intelligence (AI) tools, DALL-E 3 and Midjourney, in portraying older adults and individuals living with dementia. Despite widespread use of generative AI in various sectors, there is limited research on how these models might perpetuate stereotypes and stigmatization through their images. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 1056 images were generated using specified prompts categorized into 3 groups: general older adults, dementia-related, and control. Each prompt began with "photorealistic portrait"

Long-Term Neurodevelopmental Outcomes of Late Preterm Children: A Pilot Study on the Role of Early Nutrition.

Background: Late preterm delivery accounts for approximately 5% of all births. Although there is a growing body of literature recognizing that children born late preterm are at risk for mild neurodevelopmental issues, these children are often excluded from follow-up programs. From a preventive perspective, it could be useful to promote protective factors for child development. Among these, human milk feeding is highly recommended due to its advantages for child health and development. However, there is limited research on the complex interactions between late preterm birth, human milk feeding,

Sources of variability in the prospective relation of language to social, emotional, and behavior problem symptoms: Implications for developmental language disorder.

Children with developmental language disorder (DLD) are at risk for social, emotional, and behavioral (SEB) maladjustment throughout development, though it is unclear if poor language proficiency per se can account for this risk as associations between language and SEB appear more variable among typical-language children. This study investigated whether the relationship between language and SEB problems is stronger at very low levels of language and considered confounders including socioeconomic status, sex, and nonverbal intelligence. These were examined using a population-based survey design

First report of Coffin-Siris Syndrome with SMARCB1 variant, normal intelligence and mild selective neuropsychological deficits: A case report and literature review.

Background: The SMARCB1 gene encodes a subunit of the BRG1-Associated Factor (BAF) complex, and mutations in this gene have been linked to Coffin-Siris Syndrome (CSS) type 3. CSS is characterized by a range of developmental disabilities, facial dysmorphic features, and feeding difficulties. There's been noted genotype-phenotype correlation in CSS, with cases involving SMARCB1 mutations often exhibiting more severe language impairment and intellectual disability. Method: We conducted a review of reported CSS type 3 cases and presented the first instance of CSS associated with a SMARCB1 variant
