A late adolescent primigravida was found to have a fetus with a cystic hygroma and significant shortening of the limbs on first-trimester ultrasound. She underwent chorionic villus sampling with normal microarray result. In the early second trimester, the fetus was found to have the absence of all four limbs and a thorough skeletal dysplasia workup was pursued, identifying a variant in the FLNB gene (c.62C>G). The patient underwent termination of pregnancy. The care of this patient was expedited by first-trimester sonographic evidence of limb abnormalities enabling timely clinical management.

Peripheral T-cell lymphomas are rare heterogeneous haematological malignancies that may also involve peripheral nerves in a very small subset of cases. Pectus excavatum is a chest wall deformity with an incidence of around 1 in 400 live births. The Nuss procedure is a surgical intervention that aims to restore functional integrity in these patients. We report the first case of bar migration into the stomach necessitating further surgical intervention for removal. Our case presents a rare complication of pectus excavatum repair and highlights the importance of vigilant follow-up in these patients. If bar migration does occur, imaging in the form of X-ray and CT scans may be of use in early detection in order to expedite management.

Most minimally displaced scaphoid fractures and all displaced scaphoid fractures in elite athletes are treated with early fixation to maximally expedite the return to full function. Computed tomographic (CT) scans are recommended in all scaphoid fractures to facilitate a complete understanding of fracture anatomy and to allow for optimal screw placement. Screw placement is important to maximize healing capacity of the fracture and allow for return to sport. Postoperative CT scans can be helpful to evaluate the extent of healing and may allow patients to return to play sooner.

Macrocyclic lactones can be prepared from lactams and hydroxyacid derivatives via an efficient 3- or 4-atom iterative ring expansion protocol. The epidemic of Ebola virus disease has spread at an alarming rate despite containment efforts. As a result, unprecedented large-scale international response efforts have been made in an attempt to gain control of the outbreak and reduce transmission. Several international consortia have been formed in a remarkable worldwide collaborative effort to expedite trials of two candidate Ebola virus vaccines: cAd3-EBOZ and rVSV-EBOV. This case report highlights an unusual case of sudden sensorineural hearing loss related to superficial siderosis (SS). Our patient had a craniotomy for medulloblastoma 23 years earlier, and this may represent a delayed complication related to this procedure. We report postoperative pain management of two adolescents after upper abdominal procedures, one with Hurler-Scheie syndrome and a second with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and both had progressive spinal scoliosis with poor pulmonary function.
