We herein describe the first known case of pleuritis caused by Mycobacterium kyorinense without pulmonary involvement. A 48-year-old man undergoing immunosuppressant therapy presented with cough and dyspnea. An accumulation of pleural fluid was noted; however, computed tomography revealed no pulmonary lesions. Cultures of the fluid yielded non-tuberculous mycobacteria, which was identified as Mycobacterium kyorinense. The patient recovered after 6 months of therapy with clarithromycin and moxifloxacin. The subperitoneal space of the broad ligament and sigmoid mesocolon is continuous with that of the parietal peritoneum overlying the pelvic wall. Extraperitoneal diseases originating in the pelvis can extend, via the abdominopelvic vasculature or fascial-defined compartment, superiorly into the retroperitoneal compartments of the abdomen.

PURPOSE: To report a typical case of nanophthalmos with uveal effusion and local serous retinal detachment followed for 1 year.
METHODS: Clinical ocular examinations included vision, refraction, corneal diameter, anterior chamber depth, intraocular pressure, fundoscopy, A/B scan ultrasonography and gonioscopy.

To study its clinical significance, beta 2-microglobulin (beta 2-MG) in nasopharyngeal secretion was examined using radioimmunoassasy methods in 73 patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), 30 with chronic nasopharyngitis and 30 normal control subjects. In 31 NPC patients, the examination was repeated before and after radiotherapy. Sheep were immunised with ovalbumin and then infected with the sheep blowfly, Lucilia cuprina in order to study immunoglobulin and specific antibody degradation at the wound site. Serum and wound exudates were collected over the infection period and the dry weight and protein content of the exudates were determined. We report the case of an intracystic papillary carcinoma of the breast in an elderly woman. Gross and microscopic observations support the contention that intracystic fluid is partly a result of secretory activity by the neoplastic epithelial cells and that, intracystic hemorrhage, which may contribute to it, is a secondary event complicating the primary process.
