Migrating suture masquerading as a renal pelvic carcinoma: an unusual complication of the Kock pouch.

Following a radical cystectomy and the creation of a Kock pouch, a filling defect developed in the renal pelvis that appeared to be a transitional cell carcinoma. This appearance was produced by the retrograde migration and implantation of a fragment of suture material used in the creation of the pouch. It represents a previously undescribed complication of this procedure.

Chronic Facial Abscess Mimicking Cervicofacial Actinomyces From Dermal Filler Migration: Case Report.

Dermal fillers are commonly used for facial augmentation, but delayed complications such as granulomatous inflammation and filler migration can mimic chronic bacterial infections, such as cervicofacial actinomycosis, and lead to diagnostic misdirection. We present the case of a woman aged 56 years with a chronic, draining abscess on the right cheek that persisted for 3 years and was initially suspected to represent cervicofacial actinomycosis. Tissue cultures were negative, and histopathologic analysis following excisional biopsy revealed polymethyl methacrylate microspheres and hyaluronic aci

[INTRAVESICAL MIGRATION OF A HEM-O-LOK CLIP AFTER ROBOT-ASSISTED RADICAL PROSTATECTOMY: A CASE REPORT].

The Hem-o-lok clips (HOLC) is frequently used for hemostasis of the lateral pedicles in robot-assisted prostatectomy (RARP) and laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (LRP). We report a rare post-operative complication, the migration of a HOLC into the bladder leading to calculus formation after RARP. A 54 year-old man underwent RARP with nerve- sparing procedure with HOLCs in the left neurovascular bundle. Three months later, he was referred to our hospital for pollakisuria and spontaneous hematuria. Abdominal ultrasonographic examination and computed tomography (CT) demonstrated a bladder stone

Salvaging recurrent scleral buckle exposure with autologous periosteal patch graft.

PURPOSE: To describe a surgical technique for salvaging recurrent exposure of scleral buckle. METHODS: A patient, treated for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment with scleral buckle, presented with exposed uninfected buckle 3 weeks after the initial surgery. We tried to cover the exposure twice with conjunctivoplasty and once with scleral patch graft with amniotic membrane transplantation, but each one of them failed. After these failed attempts, we harvested autologous periosteal patch graft from the retroauricular area, which was sutured over the exposed buckle along with conjunctivoplasty.

[Retroperitoneal abscess due to asymptomatic duodenal perforation by foreign body. A case report].

OBJECTIVE: To compare the surgical outcome in patients with or with no bowel preparation before cystectomy and ileal conduit urinary diversion, specifically assessing local and systemic complications. PATIENTS AND METHODS: All patients undergoing cystectomy and ileal conduit urinary diversion between January 1991 and December 1999 were assessed retrospectively. Twenty-two receive no bowel preparation (group 1) and were compared with 64 who had (group 2). Patients had similar demographic characteristics, stage and grade of tumour. Patients in group 2 received a standard 4-day bowel preparation

Ahmed tube exposure secondary to prokera implantation.

PURPOSE: To report a case of Ahmed tube exposure secondary to Prokera implantation. METHODS: Case report. RESULTS: We present a 48-year-old woman who developed tube erosion after penetrating keratoplasty and Prokera implantation for dense vascularized corneal scar. The patient subsequently underwent wound revision with repeat scleral patch graft and closure of the conjunctival defect. CONCLUSIONS: The case presented demonstrates that caution should be exercised in using this implant in patients who have irregular elevations of the ocular surface because of glaucoma drainage devices.

Bullet embolism.

Bullet embolism is a rare complication of vascular trauma. During the last ten years we have treated six patients with bullet embolism. Three patients had inferior vena caval injuries with embolizations of the bullets to the heart or pulmonary arteries. Two had infrarenal aortic injuries with embolization to vessels of the lower extremities. One patient with a shotgun injury to the superficial femoral artery and vein had both arterial and venous embolizations. The site of vascular penetration was repaired in all six patients. All peripheral arterial bullet emboli were removed except for an asy

Wandering missiles: autopsy study.

Five cases of firearm missile emboli are reported. Three were not unusual arterial bullet emboli. One, however, was a single shotgun pellet embolus which produced death from cerebral infarction. The fifth case appears to be the first known to embolize within the portal system and was associated with a 'wandering bullet' within the pericardial space.

Laparoscopic removal of translocated intrauterine contraceptives devices.

Over a 6 year period, 67 women had a translocated intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD) removed from the peritoneal cavity or uterovesical fold under general anaesthesia. In 40 patients removal of the IUCD at laparoscopy succeeded, whereas in 24 laparotomy proved necessary and three IUCD were removed per vaginam. Compared with the inert plastic device a larger proportion of copper-containing IUCD in the peritoneal cavity required laparotomy for removal, however, 44% could be removed by laparoscopy, the less traumatic procedure.

Antral retriever and displaced dental implants in the maxillary sinus.

PURPOSE: Removal of antral foreign bodies after implantation is mandatory to avoid infectious processes and may be a troublesome question. Different surgical approaches could be considered, with several limitations and morbidities. METHODS: We present a new tool (Antral Retriever) conceived to remove antral dental implants or any other migrated material through a minimally invasive canine fossa approach, under continuous endoscopic view and local anesthesia. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS: Antral Retriever enables the surgeon to successfully remove antral foreign bodies through a canine fossa appro

[Foreign body ingestion in children: 105 case reports].

The ingestion of a foreign body (FB) is one of the most frequent childhood accidents requiring urgent care depending on the type and localization. Coins are the most frequent, and disk battery ingestion can lead to a significant risk of complications. FB stagnation in the esophagus entails a major risk of perforation. This article reports a retrospective study of 105 cases of foreign body ingestion admitted to the pediatric gastroenterology unit between November 2002 and June 2010. The average age of these patients was 4 years with a 1.5 sex ratio. Ten patients were followed for esophagus sten

"Innovative multidisciplinary care in pediatric magnet aspiration: A case report".

INTRODUCTION: Foreign body (FB) inhalation is a potentially life-threatening condition in children. Magnets, being rare, aspirated objects, pose significant threat due to their physical and magnetic properties. CASE PRESENTATION: A 10-year-old girl with a history of magnet aspiration went into respiratory distress due to dislodgement of magnet to opposite main bronchus following failed attempt of removal via Rigid Bronchoscopy. Despite reattempts with advance techniques of removal, the foreign body removed via right sided thoracotomy. Post operatively, patient remained on mechanical ventilato

Migration of Bare-Metal Stent Placed in the Right Iliac Vein Into the Right Pulmonary Artery.

Stent migration is a rare event with potentially serious complications including cardiac arrhythmias and heart failure. We report a case of migration of arterial stent placed in the right iliac vein into the right pulmonary artery; it was diagnosed there and subsequently not removed for at least 3 years. Despite reports in the literature for the removal of migrated stents by minimally invasive interventional methods, in our case, that was not possible because of the long period during which the foreign body was in the right pulmonary artery and the proximal partial occlusion of organized mural

Migration of Cymetra after vocal fold injection for laryngeal paralysis.

Injection laryngoplasty is a common operative technique used in the management of unilateral vocal fold paralysis. Cymetra is a micronized particulate injectable form of acellular human dermis that is commonly used for vocal cord medialization procedures. We report migration of an intracordal bolus of Cymetra into the medial wall of the pyriform sinus. Histopathology from endoscopic resection of the migrated Cymetra demonstrated a localized foreign body reaction with characteristic giant cells. Specific anatomic considerations through cadaveric laryngeal dissection are presented to demonstrate

Migration of pectus excavatum correction metal support into the abdomen.

The authors describe a case of migration of a metal support, used to fix a corrected pectus excavatum deformity, into the peritoneal cavity. The migrated wire caused abdominal pain. A video laparoscopic removal of the wire was undertaken and the patient made a full recovery. A review of the literature shows that this has not been reported before and that serious complications related to metal struts are very uncommon. We do not believe that a revision of this surgical technique is needed; anyway, foreign body migration should always be considered as a cause for unusual symptoms in patients und
