Pott's puffy tumor, a rare condition, is an osteomyelitis involving the frontal bone with accompanying subperiosteal abscess. Patients typically present with swelling of the scalp and forehead, headache, fever, tenderness of the frontal sinus, and nasal discharge. MRI is the modality of choice for diagnosis and assessment. The standard of care is incision and drainage with long-course antibiotics. The prognosis is excellent; however, complications from a hematogenous spread can lead to meningitis or epidural spaces if not treated properly.

This technical note stresses the interest of the temporal articular tubercle osteosynthesis in zygomatic bone fractures. An impaction of the zygoma can lead to valgus of the temporal bone's zygomatic process with diastasis in the temporal articular tubercle. If the frontal and maxillary processes are comminuted, osteosynthesis of the temporal articular tubercle allows recovering the initial projection of the zygomatic bone. The adequate alignment of the sphenozygomatic suture is also reliable for an anatomical reduction of the fracture.

The acro-osteolysis syndrome consists of dissolution of terminal phalanges of the hands and feet, dolichocephaly with multiple wormian bones, delayed closure of cranial sutures, absence of frontal sinuses, a prominent occipital ridge, skeletal demineralization, vertebral and extremity fractures, joint laxity, and coarse hair. Studies of bone morphology reveal diminished bone density and bone formation. Osteoblasts have widely dilated smooth endoplasmic reticulum. It is postulated that an abnormality of a structural protein is the pathogenic basis of this disease.

BACKGROUND: Holoprosencephaly (HPE) is the most common developmental defect of the forebrain and mid-face in humans. It is a disorder of neu … signs of dehydration in a child with microcephaly, spasticity, mental and psychomotor retardation, frontal bones hypoplasia, and mild facial dysmorphism.

The management of frontal sinus injury from trauma or operation has been controversial. Case reports and extensive literature review emphasize the importance of careful treatment of the frontal sinus whenever it is violated. The principles of management are reviewed.

Pott puffy tumor (PPT), first described by Sir Percivall Pott in 1760, is a rare clinical entity characterized by a subperiosteal abscess associated with osteomyelitis of the frontal bone caused by direct or hematogenous spread. Although rare in this modern age of antibiotics, this tumor usually occurs as a complication of sinusitis. Moreover, intracranial complications such as subdural abscess, meningitis, sinus thrombosis, or brain abscess can occur concomitantly with the underlying sinusitis, despite the administration of antibiotics. Herein, we present the case of a 48-year-old man who was…

BACKGROUND: Paranasal sinus osteoma is a common, asymptomatic, histologically benign, slow-growing tumor. However, it can give rise to secondary pathologies such as a mucocele in about 50% of the cases. Rarely, intracranial and orbital extension is present, leading to rhinoliquorrhea, pneumocephalus, or neurologic and visual impairment, which might be potentially life-threatening.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 49-year-old man presented with an acute frontal lobe syndrome and rhinoliquorrhea. Cranial magnetic resonance tomography showed a suspected frontoethmoidal osteoma with a mucocele expanding intra

Along with the neurosurgical difficulties, the management of fronto-orbital fractures poses problems of aesthetical nature, especially those that arise in restoring the trauma-deformed face to its original, or close to original, appearance. The cranioplasty using duracryl to deal with defects secondary to impression fractures affecting the frontal sinuses presents a serious therapeutic problem because of the risk of suppuration. We report 48 patients treated in the Department of Neurosurgery of the University of Medicine, Plovdiv between 1981 and 1990. Particular attention was paid to impressi

Frontal sinus fractures cover a spectrum of injury. A series of 52 primarily treated patients from the University of Cincinnati Medical Center is presented. Initial systematic management was applied to these patients and consisted of complete radiographic evaluation supplemented by wound care and cosmetic restoration when needed. All patients were followed on a long-term basis; both clinically and radiographically. Results to date are that 49 patients have had an uneventful post-traumatic course with re-establishment of normal sinus aeration. From the cosmetic standpoint no contour revisions h

Removal of the fronto-orbital bandeau is one of the most critical components for procedures designed to correct anomalies of the craniofacial skeleton and remodel the anterior calvarial vault. It is also used to improve exposure of the anterior cranial fossa. It is arguably one of the more difficult portions of some craniofacial procedures. While the technique for fronto-orbito-sphenoid osteotomy has been frequently described, it has only been minimally detailed. Separation of bone in this region remains challenging due to the bone thickness, adjacent vital structures, and limited direct visib

Nasofrontal fistulas, also called nasofrontal dermal sinuses, are very rare and found for the most part in children. This congenital malformation may be revealed by local infection or neuromeningitis, making this a serious disorder. We report one case of nasofrontal dermal sinus diagnosed in an 11-month-old girl, which was complicated by left fronto-orbital infection. Through this case, the authors stress the role of imaging methods in confirming the diagnosis and looking for associated cysts (dermoid and epidermoid).
