The development of efficient, stable, and cost-effective heterogeneous catalysts for catalytic transfer hydrogenation (CTH) of biomass-derived furfural (FAL) is highly desired. Herein, series of N-doped graphitic carbon embedded CoNi bimetallic alloy nanoparticles were fabricated and used for the CTH of FAL to value-added furfuryl alcohol (FOL) with renewable isopropanol as hydrogen donor. Synthesis of bis-spiro-oxetane and bis-spiro-tetrahydrofuran pyrroline nitroxide radicals relies on the Mitsunobu reaction-mediated double cyclizations of N-Boc protected pyrroline tetraols. Structures of the nitroxide radicals are supported by X-ray crystallography. In a trehalose/sucrose matrix at room temperature, the bis-spiro-oxetane nitroxide radical possesses electron spin coherence time, Tm ≈ 0.7 μs. The observed enhanced Tm is most likely associated with strong hydrogen bonding of oxetane moieties to the trehalose/sucrose matrix.

Surf clams, Mesodesma donacium, were shown to accumulate toxins from Dinophysis acuminata blooms. Only pectenotoxin 2 (PTX2) and some of its derivatives were found, and no toxins from the okadaic acid group were detected. This study was to build a canine portal hypertension model by intra-portal administration of high polymer material polyurethane and organic solvent tetrahydrofuran mixed solutions in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the model. Twelve local crossbreed dogs were selected randomly, with intra-portal administration of 8% (weight/volume) polyurethane- tetrahydrofuran solutions through an incision in the upper abdomen to build the portal hypertension model. We measured the portal vein pressure before modeling, during modeling, and four-, eight-, and twelve- weeks after modeling, respectively.

Three series of methyl 5-substituted 2-aminofuran-4-keto-3-carboxylates have been prepared following a multicomponent reaction strategy by the addition of an isocyanide to 4-oxo-2-butynoate in the presence of an aldehyde. The cycloaddition regioselectivity is generally high (>95%) but decreases when an electron-rich substituent is located at the butynoate 4-position.

The DMBP-sensitized addition of isopropanol to furanones was studied in a novel LED-driven microchip reactor. Complete conversions were achieved after just 2.5 to 5 min of irradiation with 6 × 365 nm high-power LEDs. The results were compared to analogous experiments using a conventional batch reactor.

Data on the usage of chemical inhibitors nifan and belvtazid, which possess a selective and antienteroviral effect, in the primary identification of enteroviruses and their differentiation into polio- and non-poliomyelytic ones isolated from human clinical materials or the environment by using the cell culture are presented in the article. The method is recommended for the practical use by the virology service in the diagnostics of enteroviral infections and in the identification of cytopathic agents isolated from the enviroment.

Use of the fragrance 6-methylcoumarin (6-MC) in cosmetic products has declined significantly due to numerous reports of photoallergic contact dermatitis associated with its use. We have determined that 6-MC undergoes direct photolysis with an estimated half-life of 83 minutes when illuminated with mid-latitude U.S., noon-centered, equinox sunlight and a quantum yield for photolysis at 313 nm of phi = 3 x 10(-3).
