The outcome of gallbladder carcinoma is poor, and the overall 5-year survival rate is less than 5%. In early-stage disease, a 5-year survival rate up to 75% can be achieved if stage-adjusted therapy is performed. There is wide geographic variability in the frequency of gallbladder carcinoma, which can only be explained by an interaction between genetic factors and their alteration. Gallstones and chronic cholecystitis are important risk factors in the formation of gallbladder malignancies. Factors such as chronic bacterial infection, primary sclerosing cholangitis, an anomalous junction of the

Gallbladder carcinosarcoma is one of the rarest subsets of gallbladder malignancies. The first case of carcinosarcoma of the gallbladder was reported in 1907. To date, <100 cases have been reported in the English literature. The present study reports a case of gallbladder carcinosarcoma accompanied with tumor thrombi, presenting as a soft tissue mass in the common bile duct and resulting in the obstruction and inflammation of the biliary tract. Initially, the patient was diagnosed with a gallbladder tumor and choledocholithiasis. No cases of carcinosarcoma of the gallbladder accompanied with b

Radiologists across many imaging modalities commonly encounter gallbladder adenomyomatosis. The classic imaging appearances of gallbladder adenomyomatosis are well described and confirm benignity. However, in clinical practice, adenomyomatosis can be challenging to differentiate from other gallbladder pathologies that require cholecystectomy. In this article, we describe the common and uncommon appearances of gallbladder adenomyomatosis on multimodality imaging, helping differentiate adenomyomatosis from non-benign gallbladder abnormalities. Accurately differentiating adenomyomatosis from its

Gallbladder carcinomas (GBCs) are the most common carcinomas of the biliary tract. The clear cell variant is encountered rarely, accounting for approximately 1% of all GBCs.Due to its rarity, the exact incidence and pathogenesis of this variant are unknown. Though hyalinising cholecystitis (porcelain gallbladder) is an established risk factor for development of conventional adenocarcinomas of the gallbladder, its role in the pathogenesis of the rare variants of GBC is not well-established. The current case raises the possibility that clear cell carcinoma of the gallbladder may arise through th

The frequency of alithiasic cholecystitis is considered and the various forms are subdivided into diffuse and localized dyskinesia. Symptomatology is described and the former are indicated as being electively medical and the latter surgical forms whether the condition is congenital or acquired. The various forms of cholecystosis are also distinguished with full documentation. Symptomatological techniques and diagnostic conclusions are illustrated for all forms and personal experience with their therapy reported.

Torsion of gallbladder is simply defined as a rotation of the gallbladder on its mesentery along the axis of the cystic duct and the cystic artery. It is rare disease which etiology it's still unknown. However we can point some factors postulated as playing causative roles. This disease symptoms mimic acute cholecystitis. In spite of advanced radiological imaging technics there are still problems to set up correct preoperative diagnosis of gallbladder torsion.

The past 20 years have observed the emergence of an enigmatic and deadly disease in dogs referred to as gallbladder mucocele formation. The disease has been the subject of over 100 PubMed-indexed publications, yet only a single review of the topic has been published approximately 10 years ago. The aim of the current review was to provide a practical overview of the current literature of and, in some cases, the authors' experience in the diagnosis and management of gallbladder mucocele formation in dogs. Key takeaways were that gallbladder mucocele formation is caused by secretion of abnormal m

The most common gallbladder disease, by far, is cholecystolithiasis. Nevertheless, the discovery of abnormal thickening of the gallbladder wall or a tumorous lesion (with or without gallstones), is a frequent problem. The physician who confronts this finding must be aware of the various lesions to be considered in the differential diagnosis, whether neoplastic or pseudotumoral, epithelial or not, benign or malignant. Because of the particularly grim prognosis of gallbladder cancer, especially when discovered at a late stage, it is especially important to focus on the potential for malignant de

BACKGROUNDS/AIMS: Gallbladder perforation is a rare but potentially fatal disease. We herein present our clinical experience in diagnosis and management of 32 cases of gallbladder perforation.
METHODS: This retrospective study was conducted with inclusion of all cases of gallbladder perforation that presented to our hospital from January 2012 to November 2014. Cases of traumatic gallbladder perforation and patients younger than 12 years of age were excluded from this study.
RESULTS: This study included 32 patients (13 males and 19 females). The mean age of patients was 55.9 years. Gallbladde

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to assess the feasibility and outcomes of concomitant laparoscopic treatment for coexisting spleen and gallbladder diseases.
METHODS: Between March 1997 and August 2009, 9 patients underwent concomitant laparoscopic splenectomy and cholecystectomy. Indications for laparoscopic splenectomy included hereditary spherocytosis (4 patients), splenic artery aneurysm (2), hypersplenism (2), and Evans syndrome (1).
RESULTS: The median operating time and the blood loss were 165 minutes (range: 70 to 300 min) and 36 mL (range: 10 to 274 mL). The median resected spleni…

Introduction Acute cholecystitis is a common complication of gallstone disease. Likewise, gallbladder necrosis is a complication of cholecystitis associated with higher risks of morbidity and mortality. Identification of risk factors which portend to gallbladder necrosis is key in prioritizing the management of higher-risk patients. This study aimed to identify such factors that predict the development of gallbladder necrosis. Method A retrospective review of all patients undergoing emergency cholecystectomy in a tertiary hospital over a two-year period was performed. Gallbladder necrosis was

BACKGROUND: Gallbladder mucocele (GBM) is a common disease in the canine gallbladder. Although the pathogenesis of GBM remains unclear, we recently reported that the excessive accumulation of mucin in the gallbladder is not a result of overproduction by gallbladder epithelial cells (GBECs).
HYPOTHESIS/OBJECTIVES: Changes in the function of GBECs other than the production of mucin are associated with the pathogenesis of GBM. We performed an RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) analysis to comprehensively search for abnormalities in gene expression profiles of GBECs in dogs with GBM.
ANIMALS: Fifteen dogs
