Physicians and hospice care: attitudes, knowledge, and referrals.

Underutilization of hospice care continues to be a public health issue in the United States. Physician barriers related to incorrect knowledge and unfavorable attitudes have been hypothesized as part of the explanation. We conducted a mail survey of 264 area physicians, obtaining a response rate of 72% (n = 190). The survey examined attitudes toward, knowledge about, and perceptions of benefits and barriers to hospice care. Physicians demonstrated very positive attitudes toward hospice. They had correct knowledge about some aspects of hospice, but were uncertain about correct answers on the ma

Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices Regarding Breast Cancer and Its Prevention Among Female Doctors at a Tertiary Care Hospital in Pakistan.

Background and objectives Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer mortality among women, yet screening remains underutilized in low-resource settings. Despite the central role of physicians in patient counselling, early detection, and guideline implementation, most research in Pakistan about breast cancer awareness has focused on nurses, medical students, or the general population. Evidence specifically examining female doctors, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, remains sparse. This study assessed breast cancer knowledge, attitudes, and screening practices among female doctors

A systematic review exploring perceptions of Tourette syndrome and tic disorders using the common-sense model of illness representations.

OBJECTIVE: Tic disorders (TDs) are neurodevelopmental conditions characterised by tics and typically appear during childhood. The Common Sense Model of Self-Regulation (CSM) provides a useful theoretical framework for understanding health beliefs in people with TDs - and parents' beliefs given 'shared' illness experiences between child and parent. Exploring health beliefs in adults can also provide insight as to how TD-related beliefs may evolve over time. This systematic review aimed to use the CSM to synthesise findings from published studies exploring illness perceptions in people with TDs

Nurses' general attitudes and caregiving-specific perceptions toward the oldest-old: A nationwide survey.

BACKGROUND: Despite the growing population of older adults worldwide, nurses may harbor negative attitudes toward older patients that might risk patient safety. Most studies have investigated general attitudes toward older adults. Only a few have focused on nurses' perceptions of caring for older patients, and there has been little focus on the oldest-old (aged ≥80 years), an age group that is particularly affected by negative attitudes. Emerging models to combat this issue suggest that education about aging and interaction with older adults are key factors. These models have primarily been ev

Knowledge, habits and attitudes towards TBE and other tick-borne diseases in German forestry trainees.

Tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) is an occupational hazard for forestry workers. We measured knowledge levels, misbeliefs, and vaccination rates in forestry trainees in order to tailor specific measures aimed at reducing occupational TBE incidence. A paper-based survey was performed at a central training site for forestry workers in the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg. The questionnaire contained items regarding vaccination status against tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV), self-reported tick-borne diseases, knowledge of and attitudes towards tick-borne disease, and practices in the context of tick

Barriers and facilitators to pediatric tuberculosis management in India: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Pediatric tuberculosis (TB) is a significant public health concern in India, contributing to 28% of the global pediatric TB burden. Despite its impact on child health, strategies to control TB have inadequately addressed pediatric cases, resulting in suboptimal management. Understanding the barriers and facilitators influencing the management of pediatric TB in India is crucial for improving healthcare practices and outcomes for affected children. METHODS: This systematic review aims to analyze existing literature to identify barriers and facilitators to the management of pediatri
