OBJECTIVES: Thyrotropin-secreting pituitary adenoma (TSHoma) is rare and it is also a rare cause of thyrotoxicosis. Failure to detect the presence of TSHoma may result in dramatic consequences. This study is a review of our experience in the management of TSHoma at Huashan Hospital, China.
METHODS: We followed up eight patients with TSHoma (five males and three females) between 2006 and 2011. The patients' medical records were retrieved, and the demographic data, clinical presentation and management, final outcomes and follow-up were reviewed, and surgery performed.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the possibility of extended transsphenoidal approach for removing the giant and invasive pituitary adenomas.
METHODS: The clinical data of 64 cases with giant and invasive pituitary adenoma treated by extended transsphenoidal approach were studied retrospectively.

The clinical, radiographic findings in 12 patients with symptomatic Rathke cleft cysts (RCC) are presented. The mean age of these patients was 52 years, and 9 of the patients were female. A consecutive series of 35 clinically non-secretory pituitary adenomas treated surgically by the transethmodial approach is presented. Mean age at presentation was 60 years, with a male-to-female ratio of 2:1. These tumours present later than hormone secreting tumours: 90% were over 2 cm in diameter at operation. Seventy-one per cent of patients had impaired vision and 89% had hypopituitarism. Surgical treatment relieved or significantly improved visual fields in 79% of patients with impaired vision. Ninety-one per cent required permanent hormone replacement. Mean follow-up was for 4.4 years.

The treatment of a slowly growing invasive prolactinoma with bromocriptine for 8 months resulted in a substantial decrease in plasma prolactin levels despite rapid suprasellar tumor expansion.
