Since 2013, after Utah became the first state to implement hearing targeted early CMV screening, a national debate has been percolating about whether this approach should be introduced nationally. The Iowa Gambling Task (IGT; Bechara, Damasio, Damasio, & Anderson, 1994) was investigated in relation to fluid intelligence and two conventional executive function tasks: letter fluency and the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test. A review of the stereotactic cases performed at the University of Iowa between February, 1985, and December, 1990, yielded 12 infratentorial stereotactic biopsies in 11 patients. A definitive diagnosis was obtained in 9 of 11 patients. One patient required a second biopsy to obtain a diagnosis and 1 yielded cystic fluid only. Since 1975, none of our patients with Perthes' disease have received any active treatment, except for managing severe pain. We have studied the functional and radiological results in order to evaluate the consequences of this approach and to demonstrate the natural history of the disease. We have followed up all patients over the age of 19 years; out of 20 only 6 were free of pain and only 2 reached 100 points on the Iowa hip score. Renal calculus in the elderly patient is associated with the same symptoms and risks as in other patient populations. With the recent development of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL), many older patients can now be treated for renal calculi. The Department of Urology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics has performed 107 ESWL treatments on a total of 96 patients over 70 years of age. Neonatal deaths in Iowa were reviewed for the years 1982 and 1983. As in a similar review of deaths in 1978 and 1979, respiratory distress syndrome, bacterial sepsis, asphyxia, lethal malformations, and extreme immaturity accounted for approximately 90% of deaths.
