PURPOSE: The fovea of the ulnar head is the primary attachment site for both the distal radioulnar and the ulnocarpal ligaments. Thus, both ligaments should be simultaneously affected by the traumatic avulsion of the triangular fibrocartilage complex from its ulnar attachment. Little attention, however, has been directed toward the role of the ulnocarpal ligaments in the mechanics of this type of injury. The purpose of this study was to investigate the changes in length of the ulnocarpal ligaments during various radiocarpal motions and to determine the type of radiocarpal motion that makes the…

European spine journal : official publication of the European Spine Society, the European Spinal Deformity Society, and the European Section of the Cervical Spine Research Society2004eng
Whether injuries to the alar ligaments could be responsible for complaints of patients having whiplash injury in the upper cervical spine is still controversially discussed. It is known that these ligaments protect the upper cervical spine against excessive lateral bending and axial rotation movements. The objective of the present in vitro study was therefore to examine whether the alar ligaments or any other structures of the cervical spine are damaged in side collisions. In a specially designed acceleration apparatus, six human osteoligamentous cervical spine specimens were subjected to incr…

This study was undertaken to describe the surface features of the peritoneal mesothelium covering the genital tract and adjacent ligaments of the cow during the oestrous cycle. The relationship between mesothelial surface and spermatozoa was also evaluated after intra-uterine and intraperitoneal insemination. Surface features of mesothelial cells from 25 cyclic cows were examined by scanning electron microscopy and by image analysis. Presence of spermatozoa was evaluated by scanning electron microscopy in seven additional cows. In the external side of the infundibulum, the oviductal mucosa exc…

Reconstruction of the collateral ligaments of the metacarpophalangeal joint of the thumb was performed for fourteen ruptures of the ulnar and two ruptures of the radial collateral ligament, one to eighteen months after injury. The extensor pollicis brevis tendon was used to reinforce the resutured ligament. Symptoms were relieved in all cases after follow-ups ranging from one to seven years, even in two thumbs with mild degenerative arthritis of the metacarpophalangeal joint.

Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction continues to evolve as surgical techniques aim to optimize graft placement, increase rotational control, and reduce graft failure in high-risk populations. This technical note describes an inverse anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction combined with an anatomic anterolateral ligament reconstruction, incorporating a retrograde tibial half-tunnel and outside-in femoral drilling. The technique is compatible with hamstring, quadriceps tendon, and bone-patellar tendon-bone autografts. Tibial fixation is achieved using a suspensory button that can be dire

PURPOSE: Chronic deltoid ligament insufficiency contributes to medial ankle instability, potentially coexisting with lateral instability or peritalar deformity. The optimal reconstruction strategy remains unclear.
METHODS: A systematic review following PRISMA 2020 guidelines searched MEDLINE, Embase and Scopus for studies reporting outcomes of deltoid ligament reconstruction for chronic insufficiency. The review was prospectively registered on PROSPERO (CRD420251269123). Functional scores, radiographic stability and complications were extracted. Risk of bias was assessed using ROBINS-I.

Re-rupture following anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction remains a challenging complication, necessitating effective revision strategies. To evaluate the clinical and technical outcomes of synthetic ligament-based revision ACL reconstruction for postoperative re-rupture, a retrospective analysis was conducted on patients undergoing synthetic ligament revision ACL reconstruction between January 2023 and January 2024. Preoperative assessments included laboratory tests (ESR, CRP, tuberculosis antibodies), radiographic imaging (X-ray, CT, MRI), and functional scoring (VAS, IKDC, Lyshol

BACKGROUND: The anterolateral ligament (ALL) has structural diversity and is often injured concurrently with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears. At present, the effect of ALL structural diversity on combined injury and associated reconstruction remains unclear.
METHODS: A finite element model of the knee joint with combined ACL-ALL injuries was established and validated against experimental data from the pig knee joints. Three distinct ALL types (I, II, and III), classified by their femoral insertion site relative to the lateral collateral ligament (LCL), were modeled. Simulations were pe

BACKGROUND: Combined injuries of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and medial structures, including the superficial and deep medial collateral ligaments (sMCL and dMCL), are common and associated with anteromedial rotatory instability (AMRI). While various medial reconstructions have been developed to address this, their impact on ACL graft loading remains unclear.
PURPOSE: To evaluate the effects of different medial reconstructions on ACL load.
HYPOTHESIS: Adding an anteromedial (AM) reconstruction reduces ACL load more effectively than adding an isolated single-bundle superficial medial…

BACKGROUND: Single-bundle anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (SB-ACLR) with concomitant anterolateral ligament reconstruction (ALLR) has been associated with better clinical results when compared with isolated SB-ACLR. However, it is not known whether the improved outcomes are the result of the influence of concomitant ALLR on ACL graft healing.
PURPOSE/HYPOTHESIS: The purpose of this study was to determine whether concomitant ALLR is associated with improved graft ligamentization after SB-ACLR. It was hypothesized that ALLR would not affect graft healing.
STUDY DESIGN: Cohort study;

BACKGROUND: Grade III ankle sprains that fail conservative treatment can require surgical management. Anatomic procedures have been shown to properly restore joint mechanics, and precise localization of insertion sites of the lateral ankle complex ligaments can be determined through radiographic techniques. Ideally, radiographic techniques that are easily reproducible intraoperatively will lead to a consistently well-placed CFL reconstruction in lateral ankle ligament surgery.
PURPOSE: To determine the most accurate method to locate the calcaneofibular ligament (CFL) insertion radiographicall…

We report on a retrospective cohort of 50 cases of three-ligament tenodesis for scapholunate instability. Fifteen cases (30% of our cohort) needed salvage surgery (11 proximal row carpectomies, 2 partial and 2 total wrist fusions) at an average of 33 months and are considered "failures". Of the 35 remaining cases ("success"), 16 (32% of our cohort) were reviewed at average 111 months and had good functional outcomes (QuickDASH 18/100, PRWE 11/100, pain 1/10, satisfaction 9/10). Return to work was 81% and grip strength was 80% of the opposite side. Radiological review found no significant corre

PURPOSE: The angle between the anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) and the posterior talofibular ligament (PTFL) is increased in patients with chronic ATFL injury. This study aimed to compare the AFTL-PTFL angle before versus after ankle lateral stabilization surgery, and to evaluate whether the ATFL-PTFL angle correlates with the ligament injury severity.
METHODS: This retrospective study included 48 patients with mechanical ankle instability treated between 2016 and 2018. After arthroscopic evaluation, all patients underwent ankle lateral stabilization surgery comprising ligament repair (n
