Acute, subclinical, and chronic pyridoxine deficiency did not modify the oxalate influx in rat intestinal BBMV but elevated the oxalate reabsorption by renal tubular cells. The Na+ and K+ ions did not affect oxalate uptake in either intestinal or renal BBMV. Although thiol group blocking agents did not affect intestinal uptake of oxalate they significantly altered oxalate translocation across the renal tubular cells. Following pyridoxine deficiency the rat kidneys appear to be more specific for inducing oxalate lithiasis as compared to oxalate influx through the intestine.

We report an unusual case of unilateral rhinolith. The patient was a 21-year-old man who had a history of left-sided nasal obstruction and recurrent bouts of fetid, purulent rhinorrhea of several years'duration. The rhinolith, which had formed around an impacted foreign body, was extracted in several pieces under local anesthesia. Laboratory evaluation revealed that the foreign body was a hardened mixture of codeine and opium wrapped in a small sheet of nylon-what we called an "opioma."

There is an important association between testicular microlithiasis and germ cell tumors. Ultrasound findings of 1-3 mm echogenic foci within the testicular parenchyma may be noted. Testicular microlithiasis in the general population without germ cell tumors or cryptorchidism has been estimated between 0.05 and 0.6%. A three-year-old child presented with imperforate anus. A local perineal procedure was performed at birth, possibly without repairing the fistula. The child later presented with severe anal stenosis, which required a divided sigmoid colostomy. The child later presented at the age of two years with multiple radio-opaque shadows in the pelvis. These proved to be enteroliths, which had developed in the distal rectal stump possibly due to a large associated recto-urethral fistula with associated urinary stasis.
