[Conventional x-ray after shoulder prosthesis].

Three types of shoulder prostheses are commonly used to cover the different indications of shoulder joint replacements: classical modular, inverse and cup. The modular prosthesis can replace the glenoid as well as the humeral head components. Exact visualization of the interface between the glenoid component and bone (or cement-bone interface) is necessary to detect osteolysis, which is relatively common. Therefore, it is mandatory to make true AP and axial projections. When describing the humeral component, the interface between bone and implant must again be considered. Additionally, the pos

Spina bifida and anencephaly prevalence--United States, 1991-2001.

Spina bifida and anencephaly are serious birth defects. To reduce the occurrence of these birth defects, the Food and Drug Administration authorized the fortification of all enriched cereal grain products with folic acid in March 1996, with compliance mandatory by January 1998. This report reviews data reported to CDC's National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) regarding spina bifida and anencephaly prevalence for live births in the United States during 1991-2001. Since 1989, NCHS has compiled birth defect data from checkboxes that appear on birth certificates. For consistency in trends, th

Percutaneous Paravalvular Leak Closure Early Post-MV Replacement With Retrieval of Embolized Muscular VSD Device.

This report describes a case of paravalvular leak (PVL) closure 20 days after surgery that was complicated by an embolized 10-mm device in a patient who underwent redo PVL closure after 6 months. Waiting for 3 months postoperatively to close a PVL is recommended. If earlier leak closure is mandatory, accepting a suboptimal result with a moderate residual leak is advised. (Level of Difficulty: Intermediate.).

Cardiac herniation and volvulus with acquired dextrocardia: echocardiographic diagnosis.

We report an extremely rare cause of elevated jugular venous pulse where two esoteric causes for the same-cardiac volvulus and cardiac herniation have occurred together. Echocardiographic evidence for making the diagnosis of cardiac volvulus--subcostal long axis, subcostal short axis, and suprasternal views--have been presented. Awareness of this complication is necessary as immediate intervention is mandatory for a positive outcome.

Reimplantation of oesophageal bronchus following a type III oesophageal atresia repair.

Oesophageal atresia can be associated with communicating bronchopulmonary foregut malformations, the most common being the oesophageal bronchus. Lung resection may be mandatory, but conservative treatment correcting the abnormal airway has been proposed, raising the difficult issue of perioperative ventilatory support. The authors report a case of successful reimplantation of oesophageal bronchus revealed after surgical cure of an oesophageal atresia with tracheo-oesophageal fistula.

Peribiliary cysts can mimic Caroli's disease: a case report.

Peribiliary cysts, otherwise known as cystic dilatation of the peribiliary glands, are uncommon, and are usually discovered incidentally at autopsy, or in explants following liver transplantation. Preoperative diagnosis is often difficult owing to their asymptomatic nature and small size. Exclusion of a premalignant or malignant cystic condition is mandatory. We report a case of peribiliary cysts, initially thought to represent Caroli's disease, and briefly discuss the management of this condition.

[Solid papillary neoplasia of the pancreas--case report].

Solid papillary neoplasia of the pancreas is a rare tumour that occurs most commonly in young women. This tumour has low malignant potential and favourable prognosis following surgical resection. Therefore it is mandatory to distinguish this tumour from other types of pancreatic tumours. The paper reports the case of a 31-year-old woman with a large solid papillary neoplasia of the head of pancreas where successful pancreatoduodenectomy was performed.

Cytological Diagnosis of Primary Cutaneous Aspergillosis Masquerading as Lipoma in a Known Case of Lepromatous Leprosy.

Primary cutaneous aspergillosis is a rare disease, caused by organisms like Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus fumigatus. Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC) is a simple and well established tool for the diagnosis of mycotic infections. We report a case of forearm swelling that presented clinically as lipoma in a known case of lepromatous leprosy. It was diagnosed as primary cutaneous aspergillosis on FNAC, which was subsequently confirmed on culture. Cutaneous aspergillosis co-existing with leprosy has rarely been reported in the literature and early diagnosis of aspergillosis in immunocom

[Bilateral herpetic keratouveitis in an immunocompetent patient].

CASE REPORT: We report the case of an immunocompetent male who presented with a limbal-adjacent scleritis and interstitial keratitis in the left eye. A few days later a new dendritiform ulcer in his right eye and bilateral progressive worsening with granulomatous uveitis in both eyes were observed. A thorough review of systems revealed positive serum IgM titles for herpes simplex virus. DISCUSSION: In the context of a bilateral keratouveitis refractory to conventional treatment it is mandatory to rule out the herpetic origin based on the different forms of clinical presentation of this virus.

Open reduction of irreducible posterolateral rotary knee dislocation without sectioning of incarcerated vastus medialis: a case report with video illustration.

Traumatic knee joint dislocations are relatively rare. Most of knee dislocations are reduced by closed manipulation. However occasionally, especially in the case of soft tissue incarceration, closed reduction may not be possible and open reduction is mandatory. This report introduces a case of irreducible posterolateral rotary knee dislocation with interposition of vastus medialis treated through two-staged operations. In this report, we included preoperative magnetic resonance images (MRI), detailed intraoperative descriptions with photographs and video illustration that show the status of an

Familial idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy (IDC).

A three-generation family is presented in which several relatives died from or are affected by idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy (IDC). The transmission pattern is autosomal dominant. Although familial instances of IDC have been reported the proportion of familial cases tends to be underestimated. Moreover, different transmission patterns have been associated with IDC. This report adds further evidence to the fact that an autosomal dominant form of IDC clearly exists and that early screening of asymptomatic first degree relatives is mandatory for accurate genetic counselling of patients and th

COVID-19: Electrophysiological mechanisms underlying sudden cardiac death during exercise with facemasks.

The mandatory use of facemasks is a public health measure implemented by various countries in response to the novel coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) pandemic. However, there have been case reports of sudden cardiac death (SCD) with the wearing of facemasks during exercise. In this paper, we hypothesize that exercise with facemasks may increase the risk of ventricular tachycardia/ventricular fibrillation (VT/VF) leading to SCD via the development of acute and/or intermittent hypoxia and hypercapnia. We discuss the potential underlying mechanisms including increases in adrenergic stimulation an

Internal Watershed Infarction as an Imaging and Clinical Challenge: a Case Report.

We presented the case of a patient with internal watershed infarction with a nonspecific clinical presentation including hemiplegia, hemisensory deficit, and speech disturbance. Neuroimaging and ultrasound diagnostic procedure are important tools for diagnosis of these rare ischemic events that count for about 6% of all strokes.  Specific therapy is mandatory for the diagnosis of watershed infarction and different from the therapeutical measures than can be taken for embolic and atherothrombotic strokes. Our patient was a 69-year-old, right-handed Caucasian woman who presented to our facility

Protecting public health in mining: a Q-methodology examination of policy space and reform pathways in Tanzania.

BACKGROUND: Mining is a driver of economic development in low and lower-middle-income countries, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa. In Tanzania, the mining sector's contribution to GDP is rising rapidly; digitalisation and the energy transition are driving demand. This growth entails significant risks to the environment, social well-being, and public health. Despite mandatory Environmental Impact Assessments, environmental outcomes remain weak and public health receives limited attention. Drawing on the expertise and experience of stakeholders involved in implementing impact assessment in Tan

Risk of violence in drug rehabilitation centers: perceptions of people who inject drugs in Tijuana, Mexico.

BACKGROUND: In 2009, Mexico reformed its health law to partially decriminalize drug possession considered for personal use and to increase mandatory referrals to certified drug rehabilitation centers in lieu of incarceration. Concurrently, news media reported violent attacks perpetrated by drug cartels against Mexican drug rehabilitation centers and instances of human rights violations by staff against people who inject drugs (PWID) in treatment. In many cases, these violent situations took place at "Peer Support" (Ayuda Mutua) drug rehabilitation centers that house a large number of drug-depe
