Ergonomics focuses on the analysis of the interaction between human beings and their working environment. During the riding of a motorbike, ergonomics studies the rider's posture on the motorbike. An incorrect posture can lead to physical and psychological discomfort, and can affect the perception of risk and the handling of the motorcycle. It is important for motorcyclists to adopt a good riding posture, for their health and road safety. A 31 year-old professional motorcycle racer had an accident, resulting in an axial-ulnar dislocation of his right dominant wrist with derangement of the trapeziocapitate joint and dorsal dislocation of the capitate together with the triquetrum, the hamate and the corresponding metacarpals. Open reduction and wire fixation obtained excellent functional results at 1 year. This pattern of carpal derangement has not been previously described in the literature.

Curve crashes are a particular matter of concern regarding motorcycle riding safety. We report a case of diplopia that was exacerbated by chewing in a patient who had sustained facial fractures in a motorcycle crash. The diplopia was corrected surgically 1 year following the accident. To the best of our knowledge, masticatory diplopia as a result of adhesion of the temporalis muscle to the periorbita secondary to facial trauma has not been previously reported.

OBJECTIVE: As of 2022, motorcyclist fatalities in the United States had risen 38% since 2010, representing 15% of all U.S. traffic fatalities. Recently developed injury risk models have sought to better predict injury potential for certain collision configurations involving motorcycles using relative speed as a primary predictor variable. Advancing the state-of-the-art, this study developed injury risk models for motorcyclist collisions with passenger vehicles across all planar configurations and incorporated biomechanically-relevant predictor variables including a novel speed parameter.

A 65-year-old man under the influence of alcohol sustained blunt trauma to the abdomen in an accident while riding a motorcycle. An intramural haematoma of the gall-bladder was demonstrated by computed tomography: peritoneal lavage was negative. About five hours later the gall-bladder ruptured, as confirmed at laparotomy. The postoperative course after cholecystectomy was uneventful.

Bilateral traumatic testicular dislocation is an uncommon condition and usually occurs after a direct impact on the scrotum. Herein, we report this as a rare case of a 21-year-old man presenting with bilateral traumatic dislocation of testes into the inguinal canal following a motorcycle accident. Imaging studies ruled out any other associated injuries. The patient underwent bilateral orchidopexy without any further complications.

Traumatic coronary artery dissection is an unusual injury following trauma. It is potentially life threatening and requires prompt recognition on presentation. We present a case report of a 42-year-old male who presented with ventricular tachycardia following a high-speed motorcycle collision that was found to have a coronary artery dissection. The patient had multiple complications, highlighting the importance of early recognition of this disease process.

Traumatic rupture of the descending aorta is an acute life-threatening event. The most common cause is deceleration trauma resulting in a sudden stretching of the aortic isthmus as for example in car and motorcycle accidents and falls from a great height. A case is described in which, following a motorcycle accident resulting in a closed head injury, a young woman was rendered unconscious. On examination she was found to have unilateral decerebrate rigidity. Further clinical and radiological examination revealed that there was no damage to the limbs, vertebral column, or spinal cord. Readers are expected to be able to make an anatomical diagnosis on the basis of the facts presented.

We undertook this study to examine the influence of alcohol (ETOH) on moped crashes.
