OBJECTIVE: A complete surgical resection is the cornerstone of therapy of thymic tumors. Unfortunately, there is no standard treatment for pleural recurrence. This article describes our overall experience with the surgical treatment of pleural implants in patients who previously underwent resection of a thymoma.

Between 1980 and 1992, 32 patients with intracranial germinomas were treated with radiation. All patients were confirmed histopathologically prior to treatment. Of the 32 intracranial germinomas reviewed, 14 were located in the suprasellar region, 12 in the basal ganglia and thalamus, four in the pineal, and two in both the pineal and suprasellar regions. Three patients had subarachnoid seeding. Craniospinal irradiation was undertaken for 29 patients. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to correlate findings on the first follow-up CT after treatment with imatinib in patients with residual or recurrent gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) with the different types of KIT mutation present at initial resection.
CONCLUSION: Residual and recurrent GISTs with KIT mutation of exon 11 deletion more frequently showed both tumor shrinkage and cystic change on 2-month follow-up CT images after the start of imatinib treatment than did other mutation types.
