X-STOP surgical implant for the treatment of lumbar spinal stenosis: clinical practice recommendations for neurosurgical nurse practitioners.

Lumbar spinal stenosis is a common condition that affects the aging population because of the natural degenerative changes the spine undergoes during the aging process. The symptoms cause decreased functionality and quality of life. Traditional surgical treatment has been a decompressive laminectomy with or without a fusion. However, a newer less-invasive surgical technique called X-STOP interspinous process device is available for the treatment of neurogenic intermittent claudication because of lumbar spinal stenosis. The main goal of this procedure is to allow the patient to restore function

Anaemia and mineral bone disorder in chronic kidney disease: a review of the current literature and implications for clinical nursing practice.

Secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) is one of the factors reported to have a negative impact on anaemia of chronic kidney disease (ACKD) and its treatment. SHPT is one of the abnormalities resulting from altered bone mineral metabolism. Five possible mechanisms have been proposed as to how SHPT impacts on anaemia in this paper. Each of these mechanisms will be considered and the treatment options reviewed including the implications for erythropoietic stimulating agents (ESA) prescribing. Anaemia and SHPT are both strongly predictive of complications and death from cardiovascular events in pat

Nursing intervention to enhance efficacy of home practice of pelvic floor muscle exercises in treating mixed urinary incontinence.

This study was conducted to evaluate nursing intervention to enhance the efficacy of a home-based pelvic floor muscle exercise (PFME) in treating mixed urinary incontinence among a community-based population. Eighty-eight women with mixed incontinence were recruited for this study and were asked to practice PFME at home as instructed. A registered nurse monitored the study group via telephone checkups twice a week. The Symptoms (LUTS) Questionnaire and a disease-specific questionnaire of impact index were used for repeat measurements before intervention, at 3 and 6 months after PFME. Symptoms

Evaluation of the role development and implementation of advanced practice nurses in an Austrian university hospital: a mixed methods research protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Advanced practice nurses play a vital role in addressing the growing complexity of healthcare. Although well-established internationally, advanced practice nursing in Austria remains in its early stages. The University Hospital Salzburg introduced its first advanced practice nurses in 2017, and in 2020 launched a comprehensive initiative to develop and implement advanced practice nursing roles across multiple specialties. This initiative included role development based on international frameworks, the creation of an advanced practice nurse network, scientific mentoring and an ada

Knowledge, Attitude, and Practices Towards Hepatitis B Infection Among Nursing Students: A Cross-Sectional Study in Jordan.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Hepatitis B is a serious, communicable liver disease resulting from hepatitis B virus infection. Healthcare workers (HCWs), including nursing students, are at elevated risk of exposure. We assessed Jordanian nursing students' knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) toward HBV and explored predictors of better KAP. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional online survey (March-August 2022) among 617 nursing students (years 3-5) at two Jordanian universities using a previously validated questionnaire (43 knowledge, 8 attitude, 3 practice items). Scores ≥ 70% were classified

This study aims to analyze unstructured nursing documentation of myocardial infarction patients using clinical practice guidelines and SNOMED CT. A total of 72,234 records from 491 patients were annotated using 17 domains derived from the CCCN and AHA/ACC CPGs and mapped to SNOMED CT. The most frequent concepts were "Taking patient vital signs (procedure)" (n = 4,432), and the most frequent domain was observation of patient condition (n = 31,181, 43%).

Assessing eye health knowledge and practices amongst primary health care nurses in a rural district, South Africa  .

BACKGROUND: The burden of visual impairment and avoidable blindness has been attributed to the shortage and poor distribution of adequately trained eye care personnel. In the district health system, primary health care (PHC) nurses are the first point of contact for eye care patients. To provide adequate eye care, the nurses in PHC clinics apply their knowledge on basic eye health to ensure best practices and management for patients that present at their clinics. Anecdotal evidence regarding the knowledge and practices of these PHC professionals is scarce. The purpose of this study was to eval

Role of nursing and midwifery in mainstreaming genomics in Australia: mixed-methods study exploring scope of practice and strategies for implementation.

BACKGROUND: The integration of genomics into Australian health services offers significant benefits for the diagnosis and delivery of targeted treatments, but its success relies on a workforce equipped to deliver genomic-informed care. Nurses and midwives, Australia's largest healthcare workforce, have the potential to play a key role in the integration of genomic care into mainstream services by enabling access to the diverse and geographically spread Australian population. To achieve this, it is imperative to clearly define their roles in genomic practice and identify specific educational an

Living Before Dying: Nursing Practice in Supporting Meaningful Living for Patients Receiving Home Care at End-of-Life.

Palliative care nursing practice supports individuals and their caregivers through the end-of-life by emphasizing a person-centered approach. However, in practice, nurses must navigate ongoing tensions between organizational norms, professional responsibilities, and the diverse values and wishes of patients, raising questions about how care can remain responsive within complex and constraining contexts. Despite recognition of these challenges, the mechanisms through which palliative care nursing practice sustains meaningful living at the end-of-life remain insufficiently understood. This study
