HADgels are newly developed photocrosslinked hyaluronate hydrogels. They are produced from an aqueous solution of a hyaluronan derivative (HAD) in which cinnamic acid is introduced into the carboxyl moiety of hyaluronan using 3-aminopropanol as a spacer. High-energy ultraviolet irradiation of the HAD solution induces photodimerization of cinnamic acid, resulting in the development of a macromolecular network of each hyaluronan to water-insoluble hydrogels. In the present study, we investigated antibody productions of IgA and other classes, such as IgE and IgG1, in mice as possible evidence of the protective effects of Spirulina toward food allergy and microbial infection. An increase of IgE antibody level in the serum was observed in the mice that were orally immunized with crude shrimp extract as an antigen (Ag group). IgE levels in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluids (BALF) of rats increased significantly following infection with Nippostrongylus brasiliensis. This increase corresponded with a concurrent increase in serum IgE levels. Cells of gut, skin, and muscle frequently suffer transient survivable plasma membrane disruptions ("wounds") under physiological conditions, but it is not known whether endothelial cells of the aorta, which are constantly exposed to hemodynamically generated mechanical forces, similarly are injured in vivo. Hypersensitivity pneumonitis was produced in calves, following repeated exposure to aerosols of Micropolyspora faeni both with and without prior systemic sensitization. The condition was associated with rising serum, nasal and broncho-alveolar antibody titers and with transient ability of peripheral lymphocytes to synthesize macrophage migration inhibition factor. Clinical response to aerosols of M. faeni suggest participation of reaction types, I, III and IV of Gell and Coombs.

In light of knowledge of the rate and route of dispersal of allergenic chemicals from ear sites (0.25 microg of picryl chloride, or 2:4 dinitrochlorobenzene in 0.25 microg and 5.0 microg amounts), dispersal was interrupted at selected times by ear excision.
