Pectoralis major tear in a 23-year-old woman while performing high-intensity interval training: a rare presentation.

Pectoralis major (PM) tears are a rare injury, that commonly occurs at the sternocostal head and has a greater incidence in men, with only two previously reported cases in young and middle-aged women. The authors report a complete PM tear that occurred in a 23-year-old woman, that presented after performing a 'muscle-up'. MRI revealed PM rupture at the humeral insertion. Surgical management was performed, and patient returned to high-intensity interval training at 11 months postoperatively and reported great satisfaction. This is the first case in literature that reports a complete tear of the

Adaptive hysteresis thresholding segmentation technique for localizing the breast masses in the curve stitching domain.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Massive work by distinguished researchers in the domain of breast segmentation has been proposed. However, no significant solution reduces the limitations of the false positive rate of cancerous cells in the breast body for probing the abnormalities of particular features. This problem is challenging in its nature and essential to be solved. It is needed to reach the optimal measurements of the breast parenchyma, the breast patchy regions of the mammogram, or the breast registration for searching of precise oddities. METHODS: In this work, we propose a novel approach

Surgical Release of the Pectoralis Minor Tendon for Scapular Dyskinesia and Shoulder Pain.

BACKGROUND: Pectoralis minor (PM) tightness has been linked to pain and dysfunction of the shoulder joint secondary to anterior tilt and internal rotation of the scapula, thus causing secondary impingement of the subacromial space. PURPOSE: To describe outcomes pertaining to nonoperative and operative treatment via surgical release of the PM tendon for pathologic PM tightness in an active population. STUDY DESIGN: Case series; Level of evidence, 4. METHODS: Over a 3-year period, a total of 46 patients were enrolled (mean age, 25.5 years; range, 18-33 years). Inclusion criteria consisted of

Arthroscopic stabilisation of an acute acromioclavicular dislocation grade III in a patient with ectopic insertion of the pectoralis minor: technical considerations.

The different approaches used in arthroscopic stabilisation of the acromioclavicular joint are well known. However, and despite a great incidence of ectopic pectoralis minor insertion, an alternative choice for the use of arthroscopic portal has not being sufficiently described. Here, we describe a case of acute acromioclavicular dislocation grade III. The arthroscopic stabilisation was achieved using the TightRope (Arthrex, Naples, USA) implant. Through this technique, the approach to the articular portion of the coracoid process can be made intra-articularly or from the subacromial space. We

Alternative growth functions for predicting body, carcass, and breast weight in ducks: Lomolino equation and extreme value function.

In this study, 2 alternative growth functions, the Lomolino and the extreme value function (EVF), are introduced and their ability to predict body, carcass, and breast weight in ducks evaluated. A comparative study was carried out of these equations with standard growth functions: Gompertz, exponential, Richards, and generalized Michaelis-Menten. Goodness of fit of the functions was evaluated using R(2), mean square error, Akaike information criterion, and Bayesian information criterion, whereas bias factor, accuracy factor, Durbin-Watson statistic, and number of runs of sign were the criteria

Poland's syndrome with unusual hand and chest anomalies: a rare case report.

Poland's syndrome is a rare congenital anomaly consisting of a unilateral absence of the pectoralis major, ipsilateral muscle, hand anomaly and occasionally associated other malformations of the chest wall and breast. Many structural and functional abnormalities have been described in association with this syndrome. We report an incidentally diagnosed case in a 27-year-old male patient who presented to us with symbrachydactyly. In addition to this, anterior depression of 2nd, 3rd and 4th ribs and bifid (forked) 5th rib was present on radiological investigations. The body of sternum was short a

Outcome of pectoralis major myomammary flap for post-mastectomy breast reconstruction: extended experience.

BACKGROUND: In the past decade there has been an enormously expanding interest among rural Egyptian patients, relatives, and treating oncologists in post-mastectomy reconstruction as an integral part of patient care. We introduced our technique of pectoralis major myomammary cutaneous flap for single-stage reconstruction of large breasts, nipple, and areola. METHODS: The new technique is based on performing modified radical mastectomy in the classic manner, and then using a pectoralis major myocutaneous pedicled flap from the other side in breast reconstruction. The flap is based on the pecto

A new concept in male chest reshaping: anatomical pectoral implants and liposculpture.

A new concept of male chest reshaping has been developed. In a population of 12 patients, 10 had a male chest enhancement using only a new shaped silicon gel implant, and two had a combination of liposuction and pectoral implants. The very natural appearance of this new implant, with or without a liposuction, seems to dramatically improve the quality of the cosmetic results.

The inframammary extended circumflex scapular flap: an aesthetic improvement of the parascapular flap.

Parascapular free flaps traditionally have been designed obliquely across the back, corresponding to the descending branch of the circumflex scapular artery. The donor site of this workhorse flap has the drawback of a widened and frequently hypertrophic scar. In searching for aesthetic improvements in the donor site, we have progressively rotated the axis of this flap in an anterior direction. The end result of this modification is the flap we report here: the inframammary extended circumflex scapular flap. This flap has a longitudinal axis of rotation lying curvilinearly from the inframammary

Management of the chest-wall deformity in male patients with Poland's syndrome.

The chest-wall deformity associated with Poland's syndrome was reconstructed in eight male patients 16 to 38 years old (average age 20 years). Follow-up ranged from 1 to 10 years. Two patients had custom silicone implants placed subcutaneously. In one of these patients, the edge of the implant could be seen. Three patients had transfer of an ipsilateral pedicled latissimus dorsi muscle flap with intact thoracodorsal nerve. All these patients had noticeable atrophy of the flap, and one underwent subsequent implantation of a custom silicone implant beneath the flap. Three other patients had a cu

A new surgical method for repair of funnel chest.

We have devised a new surgical procedure for the repair of funnel chest deformity, which we have used in 148 of our 154 patients. The procedure involves resection of the deformed thoracic wall, including ribs and sternum, rib-sternal turnover, and anastomosis of the internal thoracic artery and veins. Several preoperative and postoperative examinations, such as bone biopsy, sternal puncture and indium chloride test, revealed definite signs of living tissue. This procedure results in minimal secondary deformity postoperatively and is indicated for adults as well as children.

[Thoracic outlet syndrome : Interdisciplinary diagnostics and treatment].

The thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS) refers to a group of clinical conditions caused by compression of nerves and blood vessels in congenital or acquired anatomical narrowing of the upper thoracic aperture. This includes the anatomical structures, such as the scalene muscles, the first rib, a possibly present cervical rib, the costoclavicular joint or the pectoralis minor muscle. Isolated venous compression is also known as thoracic inlet syndrome (TIS). The symptoms are diverse and the path to a correct diagnosis is often prolonged. In the absence of anatomical anomalies, conservative treatment

[Autoimmune acquired coagulation factor XIII/13 deficiency caused by type Ab anti-FXIII-A autoantibody].

An 88-year-old man became unconscious and was admitted to our hospital due to severe anemia. Extensive subcutaneous hemorrhage around the chest and back and pectoralis major muscle hematoma were observed. Coagulation screening tests showed moderately reduced factor XIII/13 (FXIII) activity. During hospitalization, the patient had repeated bleeding events in the gastrointestinal tract and muscles, leading to hemorrhagic shock. We suspected the presence of FXIII inhibitors from FXIII infusion test results. The cross-mixing test for cross-linking of fibrin revealed inhibition of polymerization of

Lateral Pectoral Nerve Injury Mimicking Cervical Radiculopathy.

The lateral pectoral nerve (LPN) is commonly injured along with the brachial plexus, but its isolated lesions are rare. Here, we present a case of an isolated LPN lesion confused with cervical radiculopathy. A 41-year-old man was admitted to our clinic because of weakness in his right arm. Previous magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examination revealed right posterolateral protrusion at the C6-7 level. At the initial assessment, atrophy of the right pectoralis major muscle was evident, and mild weakness of the right shoulder adductor, internal rotator, and flexor muscles was observed. Therefore
