Friendship Quality in Children With ADHD Seeking Treatment for Peer Problems: A Comparison of Boy-Boy, Girl-Girl, and Mixed-Gender Dyads.

Children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) often experience friendship difficulties, yet little is known about whether friendship quality differs according to the gender composition of their friendships. Drawing on developmental models of gendered friendship processes, we examined whether friendship quality differed across boy-boy, girl-girl, and mixed-gender dyads among children with ADHD. This secondary analysis used baseline data from a randomized clinical trial of children with ADHD aged 6 to 11 who were seeking treatment for peer problems. The sample included 149 childr

Family function and problem behaviors among preadolescents: A mediation model of generalized trust beliefs and peer attachment.

Preadolescence marks the critical onset period for problem behaviors that shape later adjustment. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether family function is associated with preadolescent problem behaviors through the sequential mediation of generalized trust beliefs and peer attachment, while exploring potential gender differences in these pathways. A total of 371 preadolescents (Mage = 11.58 ± 0.58) completed self-reported questionnaires. Results of latent variable structural equation modeling showed that family function was negatively associated with internalizing problems large

Peer Support and Family Peer Support Services in Coordinated Specialty Care Programmes in the United States.

OBJECTIVE: The Early Psychosis Intervention Network (EPINET) funded by the National Institute of Mental Health includes 111 early psychosis programmes across the United States. This investigation examines the prevalence of peer support and family peer support within CSC programmes. We describe the settings in which peer support and family peer support are offered, as well as other contextual factors (such as policies and funding mechanisms) associated with offering peer support and family peer support. METHOD: A programme-level measure was used to capture services, the location of service del

Adolescents' Long-Term Identity Tension After Politicized Cyber Shaming: Peer Support and Behavioural Visibility Management As Joint Conditions.

INTRODUCTION: Politicized cyber shaming recodes adolescents' cultural interests as evidence of political loyalty or moral belonging. This study examines how such shaming is associated with longer-term identity tension in adolescence, focusing on public expression, peer belonging, and self-evaluation after politicized online controversy. METHODS: Data were collected in China in 2023 using an event-anchored retrospective mixed-methods design. The study combines front-end data from Baidu Tieba, a Chinese topic-based online forum, during the 2012 Diaoyu/Senkaku Islands dispute and the 2016 Termin

Expectations and Experiences of Peer Mentors in Supporting People With Osteoarthritis and Socioeconomic Disadvantage: A Multi-Method Exploration of Challenges and Lessons Learned.

INTRODUCTION: Osteoarthritis and other multiple long-term conditions disproportionately affect people experiencing socioeconomic disadvantage, leading to complex and intersecting health and wellbeing needs. Peer mentorship can support self-management and complement condition specific care. Delivering effective peer mentorship remains challenging. The overall study aim was to develop and assess feasibility and perceived usefulness of a remotely delivered osteoarthritis peer mentorship intervention. This paper explores peer mentors' experiences of delivering the peer mentorship programme, their

Multifactorial associations of non-suicidal self-injury among adolescents with depression: a network analytic perspective.

BACKGROUND: In clinical samples of adolescents with depression, the underlying causes of non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) across different developmental stages of adolescence are not well understood. This study explored stage-specific differences by comparing psychosocial factors and investigating possible causal links between NSSI and depressive symptoms in middle adolescence (13–15 years) versus late adolescence (16–18 years). METHODS: A total of 1,530 Chinese adolescents with a diagnosis of depression were enrolled in the study. The presence of non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) in the past yea

Facilitators and Barriers to Implementing Peer-Led Neurocognitive Screening for Older Adults Living With HIV at a Community Hospital in Thailand: A Multiple-Methods Study.

INTRODUCTION: Neurocognitive impairment (NCI) is increasingly prevalent among older adults living with HIV (OALHIV). HIV clinics in low- and middle-income countries often do not routinely screen for NCI. Task-shifting screening to peer educators might be an alternative approach. We explored facilitators and barriers to implementing a peer-led NCI screening tool in an HIV clinic in Thailand. METHODS: The study took place at a community hospital HIV clinic in suburban Chiang Mai. Peer educators were trained to screen OALHIV ≥50 years for NCI using the International HIV-Dementia Scale for global

Transforming community health advocates into peer interventionists: a binational harm reduction model.

BACKGROUND: Community Health Advocates (CHAs) are widely employed as outreach workers for people who use drugs (PWUD), yet there is limited evidence on how to design capacity-building interventions that strengthen peer-driven behavior change in binational border settings. This study examined a structured capacity-building model that trained peer CHAs in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, and El Paso, Texas to deliver an HIV prevention and skills-building intervention to PWUD and assessed its impact on HIV risk and protective behaviors. METHODS: We employed two complementary evaluation methods: (1) a quan

Mining online peer support communities to understand treatment side effects in Multiple Sclerosis.

Online peer-support forums provide valuable insights into how people living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) experience and interpret treatment-related side effects. While clinical literature documents the physiological profiles of these effects, less is known about their emotional framing in patient-generated discourse. This study analysed discussions from the r/MultipleSclerosis subreddit to examine patterns of engagement, sentiment, and emotional expression across four treatment categories: Disease-Modifying Therapies (DMTs), Treatments for MS Attacks, Symptom-Management Medicines, and "Other t

Short-Term Effects of Peer-Bullying Victimization on Intimate Partner Violence.

INTRODUCTION: Although research has established associations between peer-bullying victimization and increased risk of intimate partner violence from a partner, most research has been cross-sectional and, therefore, unable to account for prior experiences of bullying and the cyclical nature of the bullying intimate partner violence relationship. METHODS: The goal of this study was to provide a robust evaluation of the effects of physical and psychological peer-bullying victimization on intimate partner violence victimization using longitudinal data from 2015 to 2017 that bridge the transition

Peer support service activity prevalence by setting: a nine-state survey of peer workers.

INTRODUCTION: Peer recovery support services (PRSS) are flexible, evidence-informed interventions that can be provided in a variety of settings and are delivered by credentialed people with lived-experience of mental health and substance use disorders. PRSS are a promising intervention that may increase linkage to care, treatment retention, and long-term recovery; however, there remains a sizable gap in the literature to disseminate these services to scale. Misunderstanding of the peer worker role, and a lack of consistent nomenclature to describe PRSS activities are barriers to studying PRSS

Watching Porn, (Un)Doing Gender? Young People's Experiences and Understandings of Online Porn.

The social construction of gender and pleasure is a dominant discourse that is historically entrenched within New Zealand society. Like elsewhere, New Zealanders have seen an exponential rise in the availability and accessibility of online porn in the past few decades, yet a gap in the literature remains around how young people perform gender while engaging with porn. Drawing on qualitative small friendship group interviews with 106 cis gender young people in three New Zealand schools, I explore the ways in which young people "do" gender while watching and talking about porn. I found that the
