Fifteen water-soluble rhenium compounds of the general formula [Re(CO)3(NN)(PR3)]+, where NN is a diimine ligand and PR3 is 1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane (PTA), tris(hydroxymethyl)phosphine (THP), or 1,4-diacetyl-1,3,7-triaza-5-phosphabicylco[3.3.1]nonane (DAPTA), were synthesized and characterized by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy, and X-ray crystallography. Cigarette smoke is a mixture of chemicals that cause direct or indirect oxidative stress in different cell lines. We investigated the effect of nonfractionated cigarette smoke extract (CSE) on protein carbonylation in human THP-1 cells. Using synthetic peptide substrate Leu-p-NA, leucine aminopeptidase (LAP) activity was detected in both microfilarial and adult stages of a bovine filarial parasite Setaria cervi. A single protein fraction containing LAP activity was purified from the adult female S. cervi using three different chromatographic techniques. Neonatal hemochromatosis is an enigmatic disease. Little is known about iron metabolism in this disease, including the tissue concentration of ferritin or its H and L subunit ratio.
