1. The effects of opioid receptor agonists and antagonists on the breathing pattern of neonatal rats were studied. Three experimental approaches were taken. A study is presented of 89 patients with primary and recurrent erysipelas of the lower extremities. Ultrasound sonography, dopplerography and tetrapolar rheography were used in the examination. It was found that disorders of the peripheral circulation remain stable in the inter-recurrence period, are manifested by lymphovenous insufficiency, continuous state of pre-edema, trophic disorders of the lower extremities.

The cerebral blood flow was studied rheoencephalographically in patients with a grave clinical course of purulent meningitides. The main rheographic parameters showed changes in the dynamics of the disease. It is concluded that there is a lack of coordination between the clinical and morphofunctional cure by the time of discharge from the hospital and, thus, rehabilitative treatment should be continued in out-patient conditions.

We describe the upper airway abnormalities and sleep observations of cardiorespiratory function in six patients with the obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome. Pulse volume recordings were obtained in 60 normal subjects and 74 patients with a history of impotence using a technique that is simple, reliable, inexpensive, reproducible and capable of standardisation. It measures the contributions of all vessels in the penis. The components of the electronic package are described. The pulse volume amplitudes, pulse contours and other measurements in normal subjects are defined. The results give a reliable index of penile blood flow. Pulse volume recordings were also found to correlate with the severity of pelvic angiographic patterns of occlusive disease.

The effect of local controlled cooling on the digital systolic blood pressure in the hand was studied in 25 healthy volunteers and 25 patients with Raynaud's syndrome. Ocular pneumoplethysmography and ophthalmodynamometry measure ophthalmic arterial system pressures to assess noninvasively the hemodynamics of the carotid system. A previously unreported circumstance in which these tests complement one another is central retinal artery occlusion. Typically, the ipsilateral retinal artery pressure, measured by ophthalmodynamometry, is greatly decreased or is zero, whereas the ophthalmic systolic pressure, measured by ocular pneumoplethysmography, is normal.
