ISSUE: Lack of food security is one of the major nutrition issues facing Māori today. Loss of traditional kai (food) gathering places and practices following colonisation and urbanisation has impacted negatively on food security for Māori. This paper explores the role of Māori in enhancing Māori food security through revitalising traditional kai.

This paper begins with a review of Roman grain market policies. It is argued that policies such as forced sales and maximum prices made urban consumers hesitant to rely on the market for secure access to grain. Consequently, consumers hoarded grain in their homes. The hoarded grain formed a volatile fuel ready to be ignited by the arrival of the bubonic plague bacillus. This scenario fits events in the city of Rome under Commodus. Attested grain market interventions were followed by a severe epidemic, arguably bubonic plague, which decimated the city's population.

Samples of muscle from 4,773 specimens of 18 species of wild mammals from Ontario were examined for Trichinella. One of 12 mink (Mustela vison), 83 of 1,821 fisher (Martes pennanti) and 68 of 1,980 marten (Martes americana) had T. spiralis. Lysozyme production is a frequent property of potentially pathogenic staphylococci. In the present study, 1,186 strains of human origin, 85 strains of animal origin, and 156 strains of Staphylococcus albus (epidermidis) were tested. Of 1,114 coagulase-positive strains of human and animal origin, 1,098 were lysozyme-positive (98.5%). INTRODUCTION: Sexual and/or gender minority young adults (SGM YAs) display high tobacco use rates but less is known regarding disparities among those residing in rural vs. urban areas.
METHODS: Among 609 U.S. SGM YAs (ages 18-25) who completed 2023/2024 surveys, multivariable regressions examined associations of: 1) rurality (vs. urbanicity) with minority stressors (negative behaviors from parents, discrimination, less peer support and SGM community connectedness); and 2) rurality and minority stressors with tobacco use for those assigned female (AFAB) or male (AMAB) at birth, separately.

A total of 148 Nagas (65 urban and 83 rural) and 81 Hmars from northeastern India were tested for 15 blood genetic markers.
