The deployment of structures that enable localized release of bioactive molecules can result in more efficacious treatment of disease and better integration of implantable bionic devices. The strategic design of a biopolymeric coating can be used to engineer the optimal release profile depending on the task at hand. The aim of this work is evaluate the efficacy of infection control measures with unicomponent penile implants in two ambulatory surgery units in Cairo and Jeddah. This was a retrospective study of 117 consecutive cases. Primary bone grafts in congenital cleft alveolus do not always provide sufficient bulk or height of bone for ideal placement of endosseous implants. Thus, maxillary sinus or nasal floor elevation and inlay bone grafts in previously grafted areas are not exceptions in the daily routine. This case report stresses the need of a detailed treatment plan and careful surgical management of nasal floor elevation with particulate autogenous bone graft to successfully provide the patient with osseointegrated prostheses.

Metal to metal prostheses give satisfactory results in 90% of patients. About half of the failure rate may be due to allergic reaction to the metals involved, particularly cobalt. A total of 35 patients in this unsatisfactory group have been patch-tested; 16 were positive to metals, 13 to cobalt, 4 to nickel, and 2 to chromate. Fifty Swanson single stemmed metatarsophalangeal silastic great toe prostheses in 38 patients inserted between 1974 and 1984 in the Orthopaedic University Clinic of Innsbruck were reviewed. The authors compare results of hallux valgus correction and of hallux rigidus correction by the Swanson prostheses and conclude, that implant arthroplasty should not be performed to correct hallux valgus, but is an excellent procedure in the treatment of hallux rigidus, if the hallux valgus angle is not higher than 18 degrees.

Unilateral condylar hypoplasia results in facial, skeletal, and dental deformity and is a condition that is often treated with surgery and orthodontics. This report describes implant-supported prosthodontic rehabilitation in a 70-year-old patient who chose not to undergo orthognathic surgery. The patient underwent full-mouth dental extraction and placement of 9 maxillary and 5 mandibular implants. She received implant-supported cantilevered fixed prostheses in both arches to improve and minimize her skeletal and dental crossbite.
