In Japan, maximum residue levels (MRL) have been set for eight pesticides (alpha-BHC, beta-BHC, gamma-BHC, delta-BHC (BHCs), p,p'-DDE, o,p'-DDT, p,p'-DDD, p,p'-DDT (DDTs)) in 14 crude drugs (below 0.2 ppm as total of BHCs, below 0.2 ppm as total of DDTs). Sarcoptes scabiei infestation was diagnosed in 278 sheep from 12 fatling flocks. AIMS: NanoSIMS (secondary ion mass spectrometry) is a powerful technique for mapping the elemental composition of a variety of small-scale samples (e.g. in Material Research, Cosmochemistry and Geology). However, its analytical features are making it also valuable to address biological questions. We demonstrate the ability of the NanoSIMS 50 to map elements at subcellular lateral resolution (approx. 50 nm) within cyanobacteria (Anabaena sp. and Cylindrospermum alatosporum) and its feasibility to investigate the uptake of bromine-containing substances (NaBr and deltamethrin).

Genetic resistance to pyrethroid insecticides involves nervous system insensitivity linked to regulatory and structural genes of voltage-sensitive sodium channels. The susceptibility of local head lice to permethrin, sumithrin, deltamethrin, and carbaryl was determined by laboratory bioassays in field-collected colonies. Head lice collected from the infested heads of children 6-12 yr old were tested within 3 h of collection. Pyrethroid residues in the environment and agricultural products have caused significant negative effects on food safety and human health. In this study, a novel strain of Bacillus subtilis J6, isolated from the cecum of broilers, exhibited the ability to degrade cypermethrin and its major metabolite, 3-phenoxybenzoic acid.
