This clinical report presents the use of a modified polyetheretherketone (PEEK) post and core in order to support a lithium disilicate ceramic crown for a maxillary lateral incisor. When considering post-and-core restorations, material flexibility is essential to prevent root fractures. The low elastic modulus of PEEK (4 GPa) could result in lower root fracture rates, preserving tooth structure and favoring tooth re-restoration if the post fractures. PEEK is biocompatible, presents adequate bond strength with dentin when bonded with a resin cement, and can be used under ceramic restorations be

External cervical resorption (ECR) is a sequela of dentoalveolar trauma that may cause functional, esthetic, and psychologic alterations. The aim of this study was to report a successful multidisciplinary treatment approach performed in a 12-year-old patient who presented with posttraumatic ECR associated with extensive opened cavity, pulp necrosis, and periapical lesion of tooth number 9, with an initial unfavorable prognosis. Crown lengthening was done to enable restoration of vestibular surface with resin composite, forming a barrier that allowed endodontic treatment. Afterwards, a prefabri

Crown-root fractures in permanent teeth cause esthetic and functional problems. This paper reports the case of a complicated crown-root fracture in the maxillary right central incisor of a young patient who was treated with a multidisciplinary approach in two phases. A modified Widman flap, root canal therapy, glass fiber post cementation, and adhesive tooth fragment reattachment were performed shortly after an accident. Satisfactory esthetic and functional outcomes were obtained. However, the patient did not attend follow-up visits and returned after 7 years. During this second phase, the cli

UNLABELLED: Despite significant advances in ceramic dental materials, the rehabilitation of anterior teeth remains challenging due to the complexity of optical and biomechanical properties. Although various esthetic approaches have been proposed, there is still a gap regarding to the mechanical behavior of bilayer crowns used in anterior restorations.
OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the biomechanical behavior of bilayer crowns with traditional and modified core designs using fatigue survival testing and finite element analysis (FEA), aiming a suitable rehabilitation for the anterior teeth area.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of incorporating tannic acid (TA) into a moisture-insensitive orthodontic primer on wet-bonding performance, resistance to cariogenic bacteria, cytocompatibility, and degree of conversion.
METHODS: Two hundred extracted human premolars were assigned to four groups: a control using a commercial moisture-insensitive primer (MIP; 3 M, USA) and three TA-modified primers with TA incorporated into MIP at 0.04, 0.08, or 0.12 mg/μL. Cytocompatibility was assessed via CCK-8 assay, and degree of conversion (DC) was measured. Under simulated moisture contamination, brac

Studies have shown that some children and adolescents are affected only once with dental trauma, while others seem to be accident-prone and suffer from multiple dental trauma episodes. Less is known about treatment consequences related to repeated traumatic dental injuries to the same tooth and treatment guidelines are not well established. Complicated crown fractures and crown-root fractures pose difficulties for dentists to establish adequate treatment plans because these fractures require multidisciplinary knowledge and approach for a correct case planning and prognosis. The objective of th

With the advances in adhesive technology, dentists have gained great popularity with their esthetics treatment options. The enamel and partially dentin adhesive systems have proved their potential effect. This study presents the multidisciplinary approach in the treatment of subgingivally fractured anterior teeth. Empress II crowns were cemented entirely on the prepared root portion of a left maxillary lateral incisor and canine after orthodontic eruption. The clinical results after 2 years were successful.

Sandblasted surfaces of a beryllium-free, nickel-chromium alloy were bonded with one of three chemical adhesives. After either immersion in water for up to 6 months or thermal cycling between 5 degrees and 60 degrees C for 500 cycles, the bonded specimens were tested for both shear and tensile strength. The highest values of tensile and shear bond strengths were found with Panavia Ex material, and these values showed no significant changes after thermal cycling. For ABC cement and for Super-Bond C & B material, the strength of the bond was significantly improved with thermal cycling. However,

Four commercial visible light (VL)-cured composite resin veneering materials with a dentine shade were examined for their Knoop hardness and fracture toughness. Composite specimens were classified into three groups. The first group was cured by VL only, the second group was cured by VL and post-cured by VL and the third group was cured by VL and post-cured by heat. It became evident that one composite containing four-functional urethane monomer had both hardness and fracture toughness greater than those of the other three composites containing two-functional urethane monomer. The filler conten

The objective of this study was to test the hypothesis that the apical seal provided by thermoplasticized root canal obturations depends on the film thickness of the sealer used. The root canals of 120 maxillary cuspid teeth were instrumented and divided into six equal groups of 20 teeth. A thermoplasticized gutta-percha root canal obturator was used to make an impression of the lubricated canal and coated with a sealer cement before reseating. Five different sealer cements of known film thickness were studied. They were, in the decreasing order of film thickness, Roth's Type I Cement, Seal-ap
