In planning for the health of the population, especially of the aged, demographic variables which interact with social and economic factors must all be considered to assess their impact on the health services. Demographic trends such as the dependency ratio, sex ratio, marital status and family formation would also have a bearing on the care of the elderly at home. Trends in labour force participation and the extent of financial security among the elderly can therefore affect policy implications concerning public subsidy of health care and social services. OBJECTIVES: This study examined how children's immunization status varied with enrollment in the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC); Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC); food stamp; and Medicaid programs.
METHODS: A statewide survey was used to determine the percentage of children less than 2 years of age who were up to date for diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis; polio; and measles, mumps, and rubella vaccines.
RESULTS: WIC and uninsured children were more likely and AFDC and Medicaid children less likely to be up to date than others.

The observations of the National Association for the Domiciliary treatment of respiratory failure (A.N.T.A.D.I.R.) affords the opportunity for some hard information on the complex problem of chronic respiratory failure in France. The objectives were to perceive the demographic fluctuations of the population, to follow the development of the distribution of health care, to assess the cost effectiveness of the activities and to place the different participants in the overall schema of the system.
