Seven new steroid glycosides, dioscorosides A1 (1), A2 (2), B1 (3), B2 (4), C1 (5), C2 (6), and D (7), together with 22 known ones (8-29) were isolated from the rhizomes of Dioscorea septemloba, their structures were elucidated by chemical and spectroscopic methods. All isolates were evaluated for in vitro anti-inflammatory potential using LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 murine macrophages. Among them, spirostane glycosides 18 and 21-24 exhibited significant inhibition of nitrite production. Moreover, the structure-activity relationship was summarized.

PURPOSE: We evaluated a systematic review on the therapeutic efficacy of topical steroids in children with phimosis to provide data for the clinical options of pediatric phimosis.
METHODS: We searched the related original studies on topical steroid therapy in pediatric phimosis before August 2014. Two reviewers independently performed the study selection, data extraction, risk of bias and reporting quality assessment with confirmation by cross-checking. The association between pregnancy and altered cutaneous pigmentation has been documented for over two millennia, suggesting that sex hormones play a role in regulating epidermal melanocyte (MC) homeostasis. OBJECTIVE: To determine the effectiveness of short-term glucocorticoid therapy on nasal polyposis.
METHODOLOGY: A total of 60 patients with sinonasal polyposis were given oral glucocorticoid therapy (1 mg/kg) for 20 days. Patient symptoms were evaluated with the Sino-Nasal Outcome Test 20 (SNOT-20). Pulmonary complications in leptospirosis, though common, are often unrecognized in a non-endemic area. We report here a patient with leptospirosis and severe pulmonary involvement who was treated with meropenem (1 g every 8 hours), moxifloxacin (400 mg once daily), and high doses of corticosteroids. Systemic steroids were continued for 3 months because of persistent pulmonary lesions.

Sex-based-differences are known to affect susceptibility to protozoan infections, but their effects on parasitemia and clinical symptoms in Babesia infections remain unclear. We examined the sex-based susceptibility of various mouse strains to Babesia microti Munich strain infection. In all strains, male mice exhibited significantly higher peak parasitemia and more severe anemia than female mice. CONCLUSION: Systemic steroids improve nasal symptoms such as sneezing, purulent rhinorrhea, and nasal obstruction in patients with nasal polyposis, regardless of measurable response to systemic steroid. A history of allergic rhinitis is an independent prognostic factor for favorable response of nasal polyposis to systemic steroid. Overexpression of glucocorticoid receptor β is associated with glucocorticoid resistance.

We present a case of a malignant adrenal rest tumor arising from the retroperitoneum with Cushing's syndrome in a 31-year-old female. Her serum cortisol and dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate levels were elevated, while adrenocorticotropic hormone levels were low.
