BACKGROUND: Following the severe complications widely reported in some women following polypropylene suburethral mesh implantation for the treatment of stress urinary incontinence, it has become clear that careful preclinical study in an appropriate animal model is essential. The preclinical model described here allows the postoperative clinical and histochemical assessment of material implanted in the sheep vagina and represents a model that allows prediction of the potential vaginal tissue responses to suburethral mesh implantation before implantation into humans.
OBJECTIVES: To develop and

IMPORTANCE: Synthetic mesh midurethral slings have become the criterion-standard treatment for stress urinary incontinence with urethral hypermobility in women. Iatrogenic bladder injury is a known risk of the procedure.
OBJECTIVE: Our objective was to show that a novel "C-clamp technique" can significantly reduce the risk of bladder and urethral injury at the time of bottom-up retropubic synthetic mesh midurethral sling placement.
STUDY DESIGN: We conducted a retrospective review of the electronic medical records using Current Procedural Terminology coding of a single surgeon who performed

PURPOSE: Sling as a therapeutic option for male stress urinary incontinence (SUI) has been reviewed in the last two decades, as it is a relatively simpliest surgery compared to artificial urinary sphincter and has the ability to modulate urethral compression. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy, rate of complications, quality of life and the effects on bladder emptying of the Argus T® compressive and ajustable sling in moderate and severe male SUI treatment.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Men eligible for stress urinary incontinence treatment after radical prostatectomy were recruited and prospe

Transvaginal mesh (TVM) insertion for the treatment of pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is significantly associated with lower failure rates, although its use remains controversial due to the potential risk of mesh-related complications. In this review, we collected the published literature regarding the use of TVM to treat POP in an attempt to assess both the efficacy and complications related to TVM usage in Taiwan. We searched 25 English language articles using PubMed related to TVM in Taiwan from 2010 to 2019. The present article focuses on the efficacy and complications of TVM and analyzes the

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: The aim of the study was to evaluate hysterectomized and non-hysterectomized patients with prolapse and incontinence. Laparoscopic sacrohysteropexy (LSHP) and minimally invasive sacrocolpopexy (LMSCP) were done in combination with transobturator tape (TOT) and native tissue repair of the anterior and posterior vaginal compartments in patients with pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and occult, stress, or urinary incontinence (SUI). The hypothesis is that both methods are successful.
METHODS: A total of 81 patients with POP were evaluated: 44 had vaginal vault prolapse (P

Single-incision midurethral slings were introduced in 2006 with the goal of providing shorter operative time, less postoperative pain, and decreased rates of injury to surrounding structures (eg, bladder and/or obturator nerve). Although unrecognized bladder injury during SIMS placement is a rare complication, it can lead to irritative voiding symptoms and recurrent urinary tract infections. We present the case of minimally invasive approach to remove an extruded sling.
