AIM OF THE STUDY: In the present longitudinal study we investigated the relationship between prenatal motor behaviour and the postnatal neurological sequelae of infants with spina bifida aperta.
METHODS AND PATIENTS: Prenatal isolated leg movements and general movements of 13 fetuses/infants with spina bifida aperta were assessed by means of ultrasound recordings, and were compared with: 1. the spinal level of morphological defect (meningo-myelocele), 2. the postnatal motor behaviour, 3. the postnatal sensory function, and 4. the final motor outcome.

We performed a therapeutic trial with the glycine precursor, milacemide, on 10 patients with intractable movement disorders. Six had myoclonus of various etiologies and one each had progressive supranuclear palsy, Filipino X-linked dystonia with parkinsonism, painful legs and moving toes, and stiff-person syndrome. Milacemide was initiated at a dose of 2,400 mg/day, orally, and increased gradually to a maximum of 4,800 mg/day. No clear-cut observable improvement occurred. There were no serious adverse effects.

BACKGROUND: Mi Niño a la Hora de Comer (Mi Niño) is a visually enhanced, Spanish-language, parent self-assessment tool designed to measure food parenting behaviors of low-income, Spanish-speaking caregivers of preschool-aged children.
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the construct and convergent validity of Mi Niño.
DESIGN: Videotaped mealtime behaviors at home were used to test for Mi Niño construct validity. Concurrent caregiver reports of general parenting styles and children's body mass index were used to test for convergent validity with Mi Niño scores.

BACKGROUND: Currently, 5 million seniors who reside in the community or assisted living or nursing facilities are affected by Alzheimer's disease and other neurocognitive disorders. They experience various psychiatric symptoms. Also, their family members are stressed from caregiving, and may feel guilty for not doing more.
METHODS: We created an innovative nonpharmacological intervention, AlzhaTV, to decrease behavioral and psychological symptoms associated with neurocognitive disorders. We offered AlzhaTV to 9 nursing home patients.

Our goal was to evaluate how accurate neurologists are at differentiating between different paroxysmal events based on clinical history versus observation of the spell in question. We report for the first time the association between restless abdomen, a phenotypic variant of restless legs syndrome in which symptoms are limited to the abdomen, and propriospinal myoclonus at sleep onset causing severe insomnia. The treatment with a low-dosage of dopaminergic drug (pramipexole) induced the immediate disappearance of both symptoms, which was documented by video-polysomnography.

PURPOSE: The authors aimed to compare gesture use in infants with autism with gesture use in infants with other developmental disabilities (DD) or typical development (TD).
METHOD: Children with autism (n = 43), DD (n = 30), and TD (n = 36) were recruited at ages 2 to 7 years. Parents provided home videotapes of children in infancy.
