A traumatic rupture of the diaphragm, with herniation of the abdominal viscera into the thoracic cavity, is relatively rare, being observed in approximately 3-7% of all abdominal or thoracic traumas [1]. The most common sites of hydatid disease (HD) are represented by the liver and the lungs. In 10% of cases, HD arises in unusual viscera: mainly spleen (0.9 to 8%) and also kidney, bones, heart, brain, peritoneum (0.5 to 5%). This paper describes a primary extraskeletal osteogenic sarcoma arising in the spleen of an 11-year-old, male, cross-bred Terrier. Initial diagnosis was made after surgical removal of a splenic mass, at which time the liver and other abdominal viscera appeared grossly normal. Small bowel transplantation is a surgical technique reserved for patients with end-stage intestinal failure. Despite its inherent technical difficulties, it has emerged as the standard of care for these patients. This article reviews the background and different surgical techniques for this procedure and then fully describes the spectrum of imaging findings of pancreatic and biliary complications, which have a prevalence of up to 17%, after this procedure based on 23-year single-center experience. Hetrotaxy syndrome is defined as an abnormality where the internal thoraco-abdominal organs demonstrate abnormal arrangement across the left-right axis of the body. Although it is a known condition among physicians taking care of pediatric patients, it is rarely seen in adult day-to-day medicine and most physicians involved in care of adult patients are unaware of it. It is important to recognize this anomaly based on clinical findings,due to its reported association with various medical conditions. The fact that most published data on syncytial cytoplasmic anastomoses are based on the autonomic nervous system in the early postnatal period of development, when many nerve fibers are poorly ensheathed by glia or have no glial sheaths at all, has led to the assumption that these anastomoses do not exist in adults because of the significant development of the glia and glial insulation of individual neurites from each other.
