BACKGROUND: Radial head arthroplasty is the preferred surgical strategy for unreconstructable radial head fractures associated with complex elbow injuries. Single-diameter monoblock prostheses remain widely used and are sometimes implanted off-label as press-fit, even when the manufacturer's instructions specify cementation. Outcome data on this practice are scarce. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the utility of the Rose K2 XL semi-scleral contact lens (Menicon Co. Ltd., Nagoya, Japan) in the management of the irregular cornea.
METHODS: Twenty-seven subjects (34 eyes) with irregular corneas referred for contact lens fitting were evaluated. A diagnostic trial set was used in the fitting process. Once the trial lens was considered optimal, a final lens was ordered from the manufacturer with the necessary changes in power, edge lift and diameter. BACKGROUND: End-stage ankle osteoarthritis frequently involves multiplanar malalignment in both the coronal and the sagittal planes. Sagittal malalignment often includes anterior translation of the talus relative to the tibia. Restoration of the correct tibial and talar alignment is essential for the long-term survival of total ankle replacement.
METHODS: This study includes 66 consecutive patients who underwent total ankle arthroplasty with the Hintegra prosthesis from May 2011 to April 2014. There were 28 females (42.4%) and 38 males (57.6%) with a mean age of about 57 years (25-82 years).
