Long-term remission of unusual plasmoacanthoma on the nasal canthus achieved by intralesional corticosteroid injection: Insights into the pathogenesis and treatment planning based on a literature review.

Plasmoacanthoma (PA) is a verrucous tumor predominantly developing on periorificial areas, which has been considered as an unusual subtype of plasmacytosis circumorificialis. Because of its rarity and clinical resemblance to several verrucous dermatological disorders, accurate diagnosis of PA is quite challenging. Herein, we present an extremely unusual case of PA which arose on both sides of the nasal canthus and was successfully treated with intralesional corticosteroid injections. To elucidate clinicopathological features of this condition, a literature review was also attempted. A 78-year-

Surgical management of adrenocortical tumours.

The surgical treatment of adrenal tumours has evolved over the past century, as has our understanding of which hormones are secreted by the adrenal glands and what these hormones do. This article reviews the preoperative evaluation of patients with adrenal tumours that could be benign or malignant, including metastases. The biochemical evaluation of excess levels of hormones is discussed, as are imaging characteristics that differentiate benign tumours from malignant tumours. The options for surgical management are outlined, including the advantages and disadvantages of various open and laparo

A child with adrenocortical carcinoma who underwent percutaneous ethanol injection therapy for liver metastasis.

The authors encountered a 2-year-old-girl with adrenocortical carcinoma who underwent percutaneous ethanol injection therapy (PEIT) for liver metastasis. The patient had functional adrenocortical carcinoma diagnosed and underwent excision of the tumor in the right adrenal gland. Because liver metastasis was detected 11 months after surgery, the patient underwent PEIT under general anesthesia. After the treatment, the size of the metastatic tumor was reduced with calcification and then disappeared. The patient was in a good condition 3 years, 3 months after the occurrence of liver metastasis.

[Neonatal carcinoma. Review of the literature apropos of a case].

A cortical adrenal carcinoma arising during the neonatal period and associated with virilization recurred after an initial excision and is in complete remission after a follow-up period of 10 years. The authors have performed a review of the medical literature which has yielded 56 neonatal carcinomas including this one. More than half of these cases concerned the thyroid gland (15 cases) and the adrenal cortex (14 cases). These were followed by malignant melanomas (12 cases), carcinomas of the parotid gland (6 cases), oropharyngeal region (3 cases), adrenal medulla (2 cases) and stomach, liver

Cushing's syndrome: current status.

The evolution of ideas concerning the aetiology of Cushing's syndrome over the past 70 years is reviewed briefly. It is now agreed that about 70% of patients have a pituitary adenoma, not necessarily basophil, the removal of which results in remission but follow-up is currently too short for assessment of ultimate cure. Whether or not the pituitary lesion is primary or secondary to events in the cerebrum or brainstem is discussed, but a definite answer cannot be given at present.

Hereditary Conditions Associated with Adrenocortical Carcinoma, Pheochromocytoma, and Other Adrenal Tumors: Genetic Testing and Management Recommendations.

This article summarizes hereditary conditions associated with adrenal tumors, emphasizing the importance of germline genetic testing in patients with adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) and pheochromocytoma/paraganglioma (PPGL). ACC is strongly linked to syndromes such as Li-Fraumeni, Lynch, and Beckwith-Wiedemann, while PPGL has one of the highest hereditary rates among endocrine tumors, often involving SDHx genes and other susceptibility genes, including VHL, RET, NF1, MAX, and TMEM127. The article outlines clinical features, gene-specific risks, management considerations, and evolving surveillan

Benign pure androgen-secreting adrenal tumor misdiagnosed as adrenocortical carcinoma on 18F-FDG PET-CT: a rare case report.

BACKGROUND: Adult pure androgen-secreting adrenal tumors (PASATs) are rarely reported and the malignancy of such tumor are difficult to confirm before surgery. Here we report a PASAT demonstrating extremely 18F-FDG uptake turned out to benign tumor by postoperative pathology examination. CASE PRESENTATION: A 19-year-old adolescent found a tumor measuring 7.2 cm located in the right adrenal region on enhanced CT during the routine physical examination. Signs of virilization and elevated testosterone and dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) were verified during preoperative examination. 18F-FDG PET/CT

Primary adrenal diffuse large B cell Lymphoma with Tumor thrombus in central adrenal vein: a case report and literature review.

Primary adrenal lymphoma (PAL) is a rare disease confined wholly or chiefly to extramural involvement. Tumor thrombus in the central adrenal vein, renal vein, and inferior vena cava has been reported in adrenal pheochromocytoma, adrenocortical carcinoma, adrenal metastasis carcinoma, and adrenal leiomyosarcoma. Primary adrenal diffuse large B cell lymphoma with tumor thrombus in the central adrenal vein has rarely been reported in the current study. ( We searched in PubMed, Web of Science databases, Embase, and Medline in the English language from 1970 to December 2022. The keywords used were

Robot-assisted cortical-sparing adrenalectomy in a patient with Von Hippel-Lindau disease and bilateral pheochromocytomas separated by 9 years.

Von Hippel-Lindau disease is a heritable syndrome that confers an increased risk of developing various benign and malignant tumors to those with a germline mutation of the tumor suppressor gene. We present a case of a male patient who initially presented at age 9 with headaches, fevers, and fatigue. He was found to have a left pheochromocytoma which was successfully managed with open total adrenalectomy. He presented again at age 18 with a second pheochromocytoma in the right adrenal gland. DNA analysis revealed a de novo Val84Leu mutation in the Von Hippel-Lindau gene, not seen in either pare

Pulmonary adenocarcinoma metastatic to the adrenal gland mimicking normal adrenal cortical epithelium on fine needle aspiration.

Fine needle aspiration (FNA) of enlarged adrenal glands detected by computed tomography is a valuable method for extrathoracic staging of pulmonary carcinomas. This paper presents the case of a middle-aged man with pulmonary adenocarcinoma metastatic to the adrenal glands, the FNA sample of which closely resembled normal adrenal cortical epithelium. Through review of the case and comparison with cytologic preparations from normal adrenal glands, the aspiration cytologic features suggesting carcinoma are described.

The Use of Corticosteroid Treatment Protocols in Compressive Epidural Spinal Metastases: Current Practice and the Need for Consensus.

STUDY DESIGN: Systematic review. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate current protocols for corticosteroid use in patients with compressive epidural spinal metastasis. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: Spinal metastases are common in oncological patients. Although spinal cord compression is a less frequent manifestation, its occurrence represents a medical emergency. Despite over three decades of literature reporting recommendations for corticosteroid use in patients with metastatic spinal cord compression, there remains a lack of consensus regarding the optimal timing, dosage, and duration of treatment. A Revised Version of the TNM Classification Leads to Optimized Predictive Performance in Patients with Adrenocortical Carcinoma.

The prognostic stratification of the current AJCC/UICC TNM classification for adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) has been validated in only a few studies. In this study, it was hypothesized that redefining the T category cut-off would result in a significant improvement in estimated stage-related survival. In 935 patients with ACC from the SEER database, optimal cut-off values based on tumor size were first determined to redefine T1 and T2 categories. Cox proportional hazards regression analysis and receiver operating characteristics (ROC) were then used to determine the prognostic value of the re

Stage Presentation, Care Patterns, Treatment Outcomes, and Impact of Radiotherapy on Overall Survival for Adrenocortical Carcinoma.

INTRODUCTION: Adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) is a rare cancer with few well-powered studies regarding epidemiology or outcomes and even fewer studies to guide an evidence-based management approach. The effect of radiation therapy (RT) is particularly understudied and remains unclear, outside of general oncologic principles. We sought to describe current care patterns in the management of ACC and how these practices affect survival outcomes using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. METHODS: Patients with ACC who could be staged by the American Joint Committee on Ca

[Ectopic adrenal cortical adenoma in the spinal canal: A case report and a review of the literature].

Ectopic adrenal cortical neoplasms are extremely rare. The authors describe their own case of intradural, extramedullary conus medullaris adenoma that occurred in a 55-year-old woman, which was clinically accompanied by lumbar pains, left leg numbness, and left foot weakness during 10 years. The mass was histologically composed of rounded and polygonal cell fields with rounded, regular nuclei and abundant eosinophilic and clear cytoplasm. There were no necroses or mitoses. The cells were immunohistochemically positive for cytokeratin AE1/3, vimentin, inhibin-α, melan-A, and synaptophysin. An e
