Changes in Uterine Glandular Composition in Kyrgyz Breed Mares According to Pregnancy Status.

This study was conducted to examine glandular histological changes in the uterus of Kyrgyz breed mares during the first 6 months of pregnancy. The study used 53 Kyrgyz breed mares; 43 of these were at different stages of pregnancy, while 10 were non-pregnant mares. Uterine samples obtained at the slaughterhouse were evaluated histomorphometrically; endometrial thickness, gland density, gland epithelial height and gland diameter were measured. In conclusion, it was concluded that in Kyrgyz mares, endometrial thickness, glandular epithelial height and diameter increased as pregnancy progressed,

Histochemical and Immunohistochemical Evaluation of the Effects of a Low-Input Diet on Different Chicken Breeds.

Reducing the environmental impact of poultry farming aligns with the European Green Deal's goal of climate neutrality and sustainable food production. Local chicken breeds and low-input diets are promising strategies to achieve this goal. This study evaluated the effects of diet (standard vs. low-input, formulated with reduced soybean meal in favour of local ingredients) on the morphological characteristics of the jejunum in fast-growing chickens (Ross 308), local breeds (Bionda piemontese, BP; Robusta maculata, RM), and their crosses with Sasso (SA) hens (BP × SA, RM × SA). Histological sampl

Common variants in the CPT1A gene are associated with cataracts in Northern breeds of domestic dog.

Primary hereditary cataract affects many purebred domestic dog breeds and is a major cause of visual impairment in dogs. Cataracts are common in Northern breeds such as the Siberian Husky, Alaskan Malamute and Samoyed, but their aetiology is currently unknown. Only two genetic loci are known to be causally related to primary hereditary cataracts in the dog. To search for genetic loci associated with cataracts in Northern breeds, we used a genome-wide association study approach in three breeds-Siberian Husky, Alaskan Malamute and Samoyed. Cases were defined as dogs with bilateral posterior pola

Meat Production Potential of Local Horse Breeds: Sustainable Conservation Through Valorization.

Local horse breeds, particularly cold-blood types, are often marginalized in economic and social contexts, primarily due to the neglect of their economic, genetic, and cultural potential, as well as their role in preserving the identity of rural areas, local communities, and ecosystems. The valorization of these breeds is a crucial prerequisite for their economic repositioning. The Croatian Posavina horse is a local breed, well adapted to harsh, extensive production systems. Its sustainability is achieved through pasture-based meat production, primarily targeting foreign European markets. Ensu

Identification of a Novel CLPX Variant in a Mixed-Breed Dog with Anemia and Spinocerebellar Ataxia.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA), or hereditary ataxia, is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder primarily affecting motor control and voluntary muscle coordination due to cerebellar or spinocerebellar dysfunction. While numerous genetic variants have been linked to SCA in both humans and dogs, some cases remain genetically unexplained. This study aimed to describe the clinical and pathological phenotype, and to identify the genetic basis, of an atypical form of SCA observed in a mixed-breed dog presenting with additional clinical signs beyond classic SCA. METHODS: Clini

Characterization of oral microbiota in 6-8-month-old small breed dogs.

BACKGROUND: Periodontitis is the most common oral disease in dogs, and its progression and severity are influenced by risk factors, such as age and body size. Recent studies have assessed the canine oral microbiota in relation to different stages of periodontitis and niches within the oral cavity. However, knowledge of the bacterial composition at different ages and body sizes, especially in puppies, is limited. This study aimed to characterize the oral microbiota in the healthy gingiva of small breed puppies using next-generation sequencing. Additionally, we assessed the impact of dental care

The revelation of genomic breed composition using target capture sequencing: a case of Taxodium.

Taxodium plants have good flood tolerance and thus were introduced into China from North America in the early 1900s. The subsequent decades of cross-breeding experiments within Taxodium have produced many new hybrid cultivars in China while also creating confusion in the genetic background of Taxodium plants. In the present study, target capture sequencing-derived SNP markers were used to reveal the genomic composition of different species and cultivars of Taxodium. The results unraveled the phylogenetic relationship within Taxodium and suggested the possibility of recent interspecific natural…

The incidence of genetic disease alleles in Australian Shepherd dog breed in European countries.

Genetic disease control is generally not given the importance it deserves. Information about what percentage of individuals carry a disorder-causing mutation is crucial for breeders to produce healthy offspring and maintain a healthy dog population of a particular breed. This study aims to provide information about the incidence of mutant alleles for the most frequently occurring hereditary diseases in the Australian Shepherd dog breed (AS). The samples were collected during a 10-years period (2012-2022) in the European population of the AS. Mutant alleles and incidence were calculated from al

Use of platelet lysate for in-vitro embryo production and treatment of repeat breeding in cows.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a biological hemocomponent derived from blood after the complete removal of red blood cells and the partial or complete removal of white blood cells to concentrate platelets in an appropriate volume of plasma. Platelets have important growth factors, cytokines, and active metabolites that improve the endometrial environment and positively affect implantation. This study evaluated the effect of the addition of activated PRP (platelets lysate; PL) on in vitro bovine oocyte maturation and embryonic development and the effect of intrauterine (IU) infusion of autologou
