Influence of the metabolic and inflammatory profile in patients with frozen shoulder - systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Frozen Shoulder (FS), also known as adhesive shoulder capsulitis, is characterized by a fibrotic inflammatory process of unknown origin, with the most prominent symptoms being pain, stiffness, and reduced joint mobility. METHODS: The systematic review and meta-analysis presented herein provide insights into the pathogenesis of this condition, as well as common metabolic biomarkers potentially implicated in FS, such as glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), and inflammatory biomarkers, including interleukins (IL-1, IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α). Dyslipidemia and hormonal fact

Adhesive Capsulitis of the Shoulder.

Adhesive capsulitis is characterized by limited range of motion (ROM) due to adhesions within the glenohumeral joint capsule. The pathophysiology is suspected to involve an inflammatory reaction progressing to fibrotic contracture. Active fibroblastic proliferation can be found on histologic analysis, with some transformation to myofibroblasts, ultimately creating collagen in the form of a thick band. Clinically, adhesive capsulitis is classified into phases: freezing, frozen, and thawing. Risk factors include diabetes, hyperthyroidism, prior fractures, shoulder and cervical spine surgery, and

[Frozen Shoulder - a short review for the practice].

The Frozen Shoulder is a frequently encountered pathology in clinical practice. This condition often coexists with various comorbidities and is characterized by severe pain and a significantly restricted motion of the affected shoulder. A limited passive external rotation with the arm in adduction, with no signs of any other pathology that could explain the finding, such as shoulder osteoarthritis or an undetected posterior dislocation, is pathognomonic. The course of the disease typically spans over one to two years and is usually self-limiting. In the vast majority of cases, this condition c

The diagnostic value of physical examination tests in adhesive capsulitis: a systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: Adhesive capsulitis, a condition marked by pain and stiffness of the shoulder, can have a frustrating clinical course for patients and health care professionals. Despite huge research interest, a universally accepted and used definition of clinical criteria for the diagnosis of adhesive capsulitis is currently still lacking. This systematic review aimed to identify diagnostic values for clinical examinations tests used in the diagnosis of adhesive capsulitis. EVIDENCE ACQUISITION: A total of 5 electronic databases (PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Con

Ultrasound-Guided Gluteal Fascial Plane Block for the Treatment of Chronic Refractory Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome - Technique Description and Anatomical Correlation Study.

INTRODUCTION: Greater trochanteric pain syndrome may often mimic pain generated from other sources. However, it is most commonly caused by gluteus medius and gluteus minimus tendinopathy or tear. The purpose of this technical report was to: 1) describe the ultrasound-guided fascial plane block technique targeting the superior gluteal nerve in the plane between gluteus medius/gluteus minimus to treat moderate-to-severe, chronic, refractory greater trochanteric pain syndrome; 2) anatomically correlate the procedure with cadaveric dissections demonstrating the structures being imaged and the tiss

The prevalence of frozen shoulder in patients with limited Dupuytren disease.

Evidence from the literature suggests an association between Dupuytren disease and frozen shoulder syndrome, both clinically and histologically. An increased tendency for fibrotic healing after repetitive microtrauma could be an underlying mechanism. However, it remains unclear how strong this association is and if only mild signs of Dupuytren disease would also increase the risk of frozen shoulder. In 61 patients, we examined the hands for signs of Dupuytren disease and the shoulders for pain and limited motion. We found a 21,7% prevalence of frozen shoulder syndrome in patients with signs of

Visualization of Shoulder Ligaments Motion by Ultrasound Speckle Tracking Method.

There is no unified consensus on the pathophysiology of adhesive capsulitis which is also called as frozen shoulder. Some studies have suggested that coracohumeral ligament (CHL) played an important role in adhesive capsulitis. These studies showed relation between disease prevalence and CHL thickness by means of ultrasound or MRI. Other possible etiology of the disease is the adhesion of shoulder ligament with each other. In the present study, shoulder ligaments motion is visualized with velocity vector by speckle tracking and temporal outlier removal algorithm to process ultrasound movie dur

Arthroscopic management of greater trochanter pain syndrome and abductor tears has demonstrated promising results in terms of improvement in pain scores and functional outcomes: a scoping review.

PURPOSE: Greater trochanteric pain syndrome (GTPS) refers to the constellation of signs and symptoms related to pain in the trochanteric region and has recently replaced the previously ubiquitous term of 'greater trochanteric bursitis'. GTPS is common, particularly in women 50-79 years of age, and the understanding and management of GTPS have expanded considerably in recent years to include management with arthroscopic and endoscopic techniques in recalcitrant cases. The purpose of this scoping literature review was to summarize the current evidence on arthroscopic management of GTPS including…
