PURPOSE: During an ongoing immune response, cytokines produced by T helper types 1 (Th1) and 2 (Th2) together with T cytotoxic types 1 (Tc1) and 2 (Tc2) are critical to the effectiveness of that response. Dysregulated expansion of one or the other subset may contribute to the impaired function of the T-cell-mediated immune system in cancer patients. In the present study we have investigated whether such dysregulation might exist in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).

Data reported in this paper emphasize the existence of close relationships between hepatitis delta patients and subjects affected by other viral diseases, first of all AIDS and related conditions. Some immunologic abnormalities characterizing initial stages of HIV infection (reduced CD4/CD8 ratio, based on increased CD8+ cells; B-cell polyclonal activation with the presence of circulating immune complexes) were found, in fact, also in delta patients. No statistically significant difference was observed by comparing delta vs no delta subjects.

BACKGROUND: The role of different chemokine receptors in the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis (MS) has been extensively investigated; however, little is known about the difference in the role of chemokine receptors between the pathogenesis of neuromyelitis optica (NMO) and MS. BACKGROUND: Sarcoidosis features non-necrotizing granulomas consisting mainly of activated CD4-lymphocytes. T-cell activation is regulated by immune checkpoint (IC) molecules. The present study aimed to compare IC expression on CD4, CD8 and NK cells from peripheral, alveolar and lung-draining lymph node (LLN) samples of sarcoidosis patients.
