Breast cancer is a major cause of death among black women. At Cook County Hospital in Chicago, a hospital serving a predominantly black population, only 31% of breast cancers were localized at the time of diagnosis in the years 1980-1983. Health economy measures in the United States demand that physicians develop more cost effective approaches to the management of patients who have tachyarrhythmias. Accordingly, the hospital records of 47 patients admitted for electrophysiologic evaluations were reviewed. This study examines the nutritional status of patients with ALS based on data derived from a dietary history, anthropometric measurements, and biochemical assessment. Twenty patients, 11 men and 9 women, were studied to determine nutritional status in order to differentiate appropriate therapy and monitor prognosis. One hundred and eight cases of thyroid cancer have been discovered as a result of screening 1712 individuals from a well defined population known to be at high risk because of prior head or neck irradiation for benign conditions. Of these 198 cancers, 43 (39.8%) were palpable, 27 (25.0%) were detectable by means of thyroid scintigraphy alone, and 38 (35.2%), referred to as incidental carcinomas, were found when the patients were operated on for lesions which approved to be benign. The most striking feature of these cancers was the high frequency of multicentricity (55%) and bilaterality (36%).

OBJECTIVES: We measured the extent to which a set of psychosocial health problems have an additive effect on increasing HIV risk among men who have sex with men (MSM).
METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional household probability telephone sample of MSM in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco.
