INTRODUCTION: Magnet resonance imaging (MRI) is the imaging gold standard for the evaluation of suspected epileptic seizures but also indispensable for detecting cerebral ischemia, using diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) sequences. DWI restrictions can also occur following an epileptic seizure, thus mimicking cerebral ischemia. Postictal DWI lesions typically cross vascular territories and are confined to the cortex. Here, we present four illustrative cases with the unusual finding of reversible punctate postictal hippocampal DWI lesions, reminiscent of transient global amnesia (TGA).

Stress is known to disrupt the intestinal barrier and induce intestinal dysfunction. A critical role for gonadotropin inhibitory hormone (GnIH) in stress has emerged. Chicken is a potent source of Salmonella infection in humans. Occasionally, patients with severe Salmonella enteritis require antimicrobial therapy. Antimicrobials are used to prevent and treat bacterial infections in broiler and breeder farms. Herein, we investigated the prevalence and antimicrobial resistance of Salmonella in 337 vacuum-packed chicken breast products manufactured in Japan between June and December 2021. This is a case study of a thirty-five year old woman with a past medical history of anxiety disorder and hypertension which has been elevated up to 180/100 mmHg during the previous year. A 38-year old immunocompetent male presented to us with chicken pox complicated by development of Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) and left-sided native valve endocarditis due to methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). This was further complicated by embolization to various vital organs including the brain. The patient was treated with vancomycin for four weeks but did not respond to the treatment. We present this case to highlight the rare complications associated with chicken pox and the challenges faced in management of such a case.

Production of a blood hydrolysate exhibiting angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE)-inhibitory activity would be means of valorizing chicken blood. A 56-year-old man presented to the emergency department with a one-day history of lower abdominal pain and fever. Clinical examination revealed generalized peritonitis. A computed tomography (CT) scan identified a linear hyperdensity straddling the site of a perforated sigmoid diverticulum. The patient proceeded to emergency laparotomy, which confirmed feculent peritonitis secondary to chicken bone perforation through the sigmoid colon diverticulum. After removal of the bone, Hartmann's procedure was performed, and the patient subsequently made an excellent recovery.
