PURPOSE: To investigate characteristics of choroidal involvement in sarcoid uveitis.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Included were patients with confirmed sarcoidosis and uveitis with an eye examination at the Tays Eye Center at Tampere University Hospital between January 2014 and January 2021.
RESULTS: Choroidal involvement was found in 31 of 97 sarcoid uveitis patients (32%), and 5 of them were detected only after reviewing the ocular images for this study. None of our patients presented with vasculitis. Choroidal nodules were found in 10%, multifocal choroiditis in 90% and serpiginous choroiditis i…

CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Expanding practitioner knowledge regarding potential changes in ocular structure of keratoconic eyes will improve the eye care practice and patient management.
BACKGROUND: This study aimed to compare the difference in choroidal thickness between keratoconus patients and two control groups of myopic-astigmatism and emmetropic subjects.
METHODS: A case-control study was undertaken which included 50 patients with keratoconus, 50 with myopic-astigmatism, 30 with emmetropia aged between 18 and 39 years. Choroidal thickness was measured at three different locations, including t…

Choroidal nevus is the most common intraocular tumor, and most cases are benign and have no symptoms. However, choroidal nevus carries a low risk for transformation into melanoma, which is a highly aggressive and deadly cancer. In this case report, we present a male patient with blurred vision in his left eye for six months. Multimodal fundus imaging reported a large pigmented gray-brown choroidal lesion adjacent to the optic disc in his left eye, along with intraretinal and subretinal fluid (SRF) accumulation involving the macula and fluorescein leakage. Choroidal nevus was then diagnosed, an…

UNLABELLED: Choroidal nevi (CN) are commonly divided into non-suspicious (stable) and suscpicious (progressive). However, there are still no clear data on OCT patterns of nevi progression, their transformation into initial melanomas.
PURPOSE: The study aims to determine the types of OCT patterns of CN and to evaluate their prognostic value.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study included 50 patients with CN (53 nevi). The height of 19 nevi evaluated with ultrasonography was 1.33±0.43 mm, diameter - 5.47±1.68 mm.
RESULTS: CN is an area of local increase in reflectivity of the choroid; its widening …

Glaucoma is a group of diseases characterized by distinctive visual field defect and optic nerve atrophy usually associated with elevated intraocular pressure (IOP). It is one of the most serious visual disorders and the leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide. As a multifactorial disease, the pathogenesis of glaucoma is complicated and has been far from fully understood, where vascular factors are recognized to play an important role in its development and progression of glaucoma. Empirical researches have shown that parapapillary choroidal microvasculature dropout (CMvD) is closely…
