Characteristics of Single vs. Multiple Suicide Attempters Among Adult Population: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: We aimed to examine the factors that differentiate single and multiple suicide attempters in adult population. We followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines to conduct this review and meta-analysis. The review protocol was registered in PROSPERO. We carried out a systematic literature search in three databases to identify original studies that explored the differences between single and multiple suicide attempters among adult population. RECENT FINDINGS: There might be meaningful differences between those individuals

Obinutuzumab versus Rituximab to maintain remission in children with steroid-dependent and frequently relapsing nephrotic syndrome: the OBIRINS study protocol, a double-blind randomised controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: There is an unmet clinical need for the development of novel treatment strategies to improve the outcome of children with frequent relapsing or steroid-dependent nephrotic syndrome. Obinutuzumab (OBI) is a second-generation anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody that has demonstrated its superiority to rituximab (RTX) in vitro and in vivo. Our assumption is that a single infusion of low-dose OBI will induce longer B-cell depletion, longer sustained remission and reduce the frequency of relapses and the use of oral immunosuppressors compared with a single infusion of RTX. METHODS AND ANAL

Relationship between periodontitis and systemic diseases: A bibliometric and visual study.

To provide a comprehensive and updated mapping of observational studies assessing the relationship between periodontitis and systemic diseases through a bibliometric and visual analysis. A search was conducted using the Web of Science database, covering the period 1989 to 2024. The Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) from the US National Library of Medicine was used to categorize systemic conditions, focusing on terms unrelated to stomatognathic diseases. The analysis included keyword co-occurrence mapping, co-authorship, bibliographic coupling, and co-citation analysis. Quality indicators such as

The multifaceted role of quaking protein in neuropsychiatric disorders and tumor progression.

The Quaking protein (QKI) belongs to the STAR protein family and plays a significant role in the development of the nervous system. It serves as a crucial regulator in the processes of tumor progression and cardiovascular system development. Within the central nervous system, QKI has been associated with the onset and progression of numerous neuropsychiatric disorders, including schizophrenia, depression, ataxia, and Alzheimer's disease. In malignant tumors, the methylation of the QKI promoter inhibits its expression. QKI primarily involves in the generation, stability, and selective splicing

Characteristics and treatment of headache after traumatic brain injury: a focused review.

Headache is one of the most common complaints in patients with traumatic brain injury. By definition, headache that develops within 1 wk after head trauma (or within 1 wk after regaining consciousness) is referred to as posttraumatic headache (PTH). Although most PTH resolves within 6-12 mos after injury, approximately 18-33% of PTH persists beyond 1 yr. We performed a systematic literature review on this topic and found that many patients with PTH had clinical presentations very similar to tension-type headache (37% of all PTH) and migraine (29% of all PTH). Although there is no universally a

A pragmatic trial with an optimized dose of rifampicin and moxifloxacin for the treatment of drug-susceptible pulmonary tuberculosis: a study protocol for open-label, randomized phase III trial (OptiRiMoxTB).

BACKGROUND: Current combination antibiotic treatment for drug-susceptible tuberculosis (DS-TB) usually takes 6 months to complete. This long duration can compromise clinical outcomes. Although a 4-month regimen including an optimized dose of rifapentine plus moxifloxacin is non-inferior to standard therapy, rifapentine is hard to source globally and adoption of this regimen has been slow. This trial investigates the efficacy and safety of a 4-month DS-TB treatment including the more readily available rifamycin, rifampicin 35 mg/kg, with or without moxifloxacin 400 mg. METHODS: This multi-cent

[The current concept of primary IgA deficiency and its prevalence in Iceland.].

IgA deficiency is among the most common primary immune deficiency known. Its prevalence, ranging from 1/324-1/1850, depends upon the study group geographic location and its ethnicity. IgA deficiency is commonly associated with other immune defects such as IgG2, and IgG4 deficiency. In addition, ataxia telangiectasia has been associated with IgA deficiency as well. The clinical significans of IgA deficiency is presently unclear. However, increased susceptibility to atopy, autoimmunity, infections and cancer has been reported. Furthermore, majority of these diseases are bound to the mucosal surf

Sympathetic nerve blocks for posttraumatic stress disorder: an evidentiary review for future clinical trials.

Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a chronic disorder resulting from exposure to traumatic events. In recent years, sympathetic nerve blocks have gained interest as an emerging treatment modality for PTSD. They have been shown to reduce autonomic dysfunction associated with PTSD symptoms, particularly in refractory and treatment-resistant patients. However, there is limited evidence regarding the technique's effectiveness in PTSD patients. Therefore, this scoping review was designed to update and summarize the current literature on this topic to inform the design of future clinical trials

Postbiotics and Skeletal Muscle Health: Molecular Mechanisms and Translational Perspectives.

Recent evidence implicates the gut microbiota in muscle physiology and function via the gut-muscle axis, which portrays bidirectional communication between microbial colonies, their metabolites and muscle tissue. Age-related muscle decline, including sarcopenia and muscle atrophy, has been associated with shifts in gut microbiota composition and lower levels of microbial metabolites, such as short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), thereby expanding muscle health research toward microbiota-based therapies. Postbiotics, defined as preparations of inanimate microorganisms and/or their components, are ga
