OBJECTIVES: To assess the sensitivity and specificity of the 2019 EULAR/American College of Rheumatology (ACR) classification criteria for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in outpatients at an academic tertiary care centre and to compare them to the 1997 ACR and the 2012 Systemic Lupus International Collaborating Clinics criteria.

Twenty bullous pemphigoid (BP) patients were studied to establish any correlation between free anti-basement membrane zone (BMZ) antibodies, circulating immune complexes (CIC) and dermo-epidermal junction deposits. CIC levels were evaluated by 2% polyethylene glycol (PEG) precipitation. The twenty patients were found to have IgG and/or C3 deposited in the BMZ. In order to deduce the predominant haplotypes in Japanese narcoleptics, we have studied a total of 111 Japanese patients with narcolepsy and six multiple-case families for HLA class I and class II antigens, and for class III HLA-linked complement markers. In Japanese narcoleptics, the most frequent haplotypes were B35-DR2, B15-DR2, and B51-DR2. These haplotypes were rare in normal Japanese population. This study deals with 80 children showing a clinically typical acute nephritic syndrome with proteinuria and/or hematuria, edema, and hypertension. Their ages ranged between 2 years 5 months and 16 years; 36 cases were female. In 73 cases a streptococcal infection was demonstrated; the remaining 7 cases did not show morphologic differences with the former. No previous renal disease nor familial history of nephropathies were elicited. BACKGROUND: The development of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is influenced by risk factors that contribute to inflammatory processes, cellular stress responses, and a dysregulation of the complement system. Given the incomplete understanding of the pathogenesis of AMD and the necessity for novel therapeutics, biomarker studies investigating aqueous humour from the anterior chamber of the eye serve as a valuable tool.
