[Contact dermatitis due to chloroacetophenone (tear gas)].

We report on 3 patients suffering from allergic contact dermatitis to chloracetophenone, two of them policemen. Besides toxic local and systemic effects, one possible risk of using tear gas is sensitization.

Allergic contact dermatitis from anaerobic acrylic sealants.

Three patients employed in electronic assembly operations had allergic contact dermatitis to polyethylene glycol (PEG) dimethacrylate, found in an anaerobic sealant. Clinical features in all three cases consisted of eczema localized predominantly on the distal parts of the fingers and the palmar aspects of fingertips; onycholysis developed in one patient. No cross reactions to methyl methacrylate were observed on patch testing. Guinea pig maximization testing with both the commercially available sealant and the active resin demonstrated that PEG dimethacrylate is a moderate skin sensitizer.

Lymphomatoid contact dermatitis due to ethylenediamine dihydrochloride.

A case of contact sensitivity to ethylenediamine dihydrochloride is reported. The clinical and histological features were in keeping with early mycosis fungoides. The eruption cleared with avoidance of the allergen. Continued contact with the allergen was traced to its retention in a trouser pocket lining. The term "lymphomatoid contact dermatitis" should be confined to cases where the lymphomatoid features are due to a positively reacting allergen.

Experimental photoallergic contact dermatitis: a mouse model.

We have induced photoallergic contact dermatitis in mice to 3,3',4',5 tetrachlorosalicylanilide (TCSA), chlorpromazine and 6-methylcoumarin. These compounds are known to produce photoallergic contact dermatitis in humans. The photoallergic contact dermatitis reaction in the mouse is immunologically specific viz. mice photosensitized to TCSA react, by photochallenge, to that compound and not to chlorpromazine, and conversely. The reaction requires UVA at both sensitization and challenge. It appears to be T-cell mediated in that it can be passively transferred to syngeneic mice by lymph node cel

Computer assisted monitoring of contact dermatitis patients.

All contact dermatitis patients are told to avoid their specific allergens. As regards topical pharmaceutical agents, however, it is almost impossible for these patients to identify the products that contain their allergens. In order to provide reliable information for these patients, we have designed a computer assisted data system. The CODEX (COntact DErmatitis indeX) system consists of three computer readable files: a Product File containing the complete composition of the pharmaceutical products on the Belgian market that are applied on the skin and the mucous membranes, a Patient File wit

Tissue fibrinolytic activity of allergic contact dermatitis.

One of our co-workers was sensitized with a 1% DNCB solution in acetone. Biopsies were obtained from skin lesions 1, 2, 4, 8, 12, 24, 30, 36 and 48 hours after a challenge with 0.1% DNCB solution. In the upper dermis, a rapid decrease of tissue fibrinolytic activity was found which disappeared after 30 hours. In the lower dermis, biphasic changes were observed. Tissue fibrinolytic activity increased one hour and 12-36 hours after challenge, whereas at 48 hours, when erythema was most intensive, it decreased in comparison to the normal activity. Erythema and histological changes of the epidermi

Occupational contact dermatitis in 100 consecutive patients.

One hundred consecutive cases of occupational contact dermatitis diagnosed in Warsaw are discussed. In 79 subjects allergic and in 21 patients irritant occupational dermatitis was found. The most numerous group were workers employed with epoxy resins (20 persons), next came masons (14 subjects), and third medical staff members (12 persons). In 46 patients the standard series was sufficient for diagnosis of allergic occupational contact dermatitis, but in thirty three cases it was indispensable to test them with additional subsances.

Occupational protein contact dermatitis in food handlers.

The preparation of food in restaurant kitchens carries a high risk of occupational dermatoses. Analysis of 33 cases revealed four different etiological types. Simple irritant dermatitis was rare (2 cases), plain contact dermatitis was more common (6 cases). Fifteen patients had relevant patch tests and scratch tests; ten had positive scratch tests only to explain the cause of their dermatitis. The last type was termed protein contact dermatitis. The major type IV allergens incriminated were metals, onion and garlic. The major proteinaceous allergens indicated by history and test results were f

Contact dermatitis from pyrrolnitrin (an antimycotic agent).

Two cases are described of acute contact dermatitis from an antifungal cream, containing pyrrolnitrin, employed for the treatment of tinea cruris. Positive reactions to pyrrolnitrin and to a chemically related substance, 1-chlor-2,4dinitrobenzene, were put into evidence.
